He's awesome in everything (although I can't vouch for White Noise 2...) and he makes me happy in the pants. And mysteriously, everything he is in horribly tanks unless it has Keri Russell in it.

I love him from his time in the Whedonverse (Buffy, Firefly). I have to make one correction though... he was in 'Saving Private Ryan', which did not exactly tank.

His performance in this movie, Alpha Dog, and even his short part in 30 days of night are nothing short of amazing. I keep waiting for him to be in every movie, but he still isn't doing a lot

Whoa. I almost posted Keanu Reeves.
It's not like he's rated at all, so I think, in context, he is underrated. It's always been like, he can't act, he talks in a monotone, he's unexpressive, and that is kind of true, he's been wooden in quite a few movies, but mostly early in his career (like Dangerous Liaisons and Dracula).
But I would say he's underrated because he has definitely developed as an actor, and his performances post-Matrix in low key, non-blockbuster type films have been totally competent. He's even been mostly excellent (token Bill & Ted reference) in films like Thumbsucker, The Gift, A Scanner Darkly (rotoscoped, but still), and The Lake House.
