Growing up in the 90s it seemed like there was so many good things going on in film , music, literature..etc. I was in awe of what the new decade would bring, yet sadly when Bush entered office much of what I liked declined, or did not live up to expectations. It became the reality t.v. era of fake and vapid icons , so I wonder as we get a new president elect ( whom I think will be Obama ) do you think our culture will change as well.
It's not Bush it's those damn cheap motherfucking networks.
It's cheaper to make a reality show then produce a show with actors, writers, and crew members.
Actually I think in the next 5 years there will be no creativity.
But just remakes and reality tv.
I mean who's bright idea was it to bring back a revised and updated Knight Rider?

right but I still think someone like Paris Hilton mirrors the era of the Bush. Does the media not catapult these icons to fit the zeitgeist of the country? I think it will be remakes of remakes ....but scarier will be the audience who does not know they are seeing a remake...

I don't quite understand. Bush doesn't greenlight Paris Hilton My New BFF.
The only reason these people are famous are those tabloid shows.
And they made a sex video. I mean Kim Kardashian was on Dancing with the Stars.
How is she a "star" exactly?
Im not saying Bush does, but the media emulates the reigning power in the country , or cast a shadow on its nefarious doings ....Paris Hilton was the perfect icon of culture for the Bush era ....it kinda makes sense, given her privilege background, not really knowing or doing anything, she was there because of her social status , much like Bush and his father as former President. Then all the reality crap, and tabloid gossip with popping up , replacing what was really going on , the Iraq war.after 9/11 Hollywood was asked to help sway minds , and provoke or stir moral. This was done in WW2 as well....
You might have to go back a bit , and see what was just popping up at that time ...you might be able to compare what I am saying with the yuppie invasion of the 80s and the Reagan administration...there was a culture which fit the mood of the White House
I think that all the bile and bad feelings that's been kept inside during the Bush years will come out once Obama takes office. There'll be this huge cathartic release. Expect a lot of weird and violent literature, movies, music, and art to appear in the next four years.

thats what I am hoping...that the boutique will leave the art so to speak.

I don't agree. The last 8 or so years have been very good for tv dramas - The Wire came and went while Bush has had his feet under the big desk, for example - and I don't see why that won't continue, despite the popularity of all the reality stuff.
