Any movies you've seen that were so powerful. moving, sad, etc.

That just remained in your head and you couldn't stop thinking about?

This Mist and Wind Chill for me. Mainly because of the endings.

I liked parts of that movie...but as a whole I was getting bored. To answer the question, I watched this Stan Brahkage film in class last week on autopsies...I cannot get he images out of my head.especially when they took the brains out , or cut through tissue exposing the fat....really makes you think about looking at a chicken dinner, and then yourself . I also love Mulholland Drive by Lynch..!

It's interesting to see a Gilliam film and a Brakhage film this early in the thread.

For me, There Will Be Blood, Chariots of Fire, The Qatsi trilogy, and Baraka.

Requiem for a Dream
Salò o le 120 giornate di Sodoma
and oddly enough Big Fish. I cried like a baby after seeing that movie and felt bad for any time I had ever cut off one of my dad's stories. Even thinking about it now, that movie made me feel like crap.

That movie couldn't have been more of a downer if it was two hours of Bjork drowning puppies.

Thanks for the heads up. I just googled it and read the plot (and the ending) and can't imagine why anybody would ever want to see that movie!!

I'm going to accept having one of the cornier lists.
The Laramie Project
I will admit to crying when I watch the end of 13th Warrior. (something about the acceptance that they may die and the prayer both to Allah and the Aesir and all that chokes me up.)
And the first time I watched Donnie Darko and got to the end and wrapped my mind around it all, I was stunned.
For some sappiness, I saw August Rush recently and that had me kinda choked up, even though it was a happy ending.
Bully
The Mist (once I finally got to the end while still relatively sober enough to follow what was going on.)
Taboo/Gohato, with it's very symbolic ending with the older samurai cutting down the sakura tree.
Fight Club, and the book was even better.
There's others that are more profound, but I can't think of them at the moment.

Paths of Glory, Hell is for Heroes, Requiem For A Dream, Chinatown I especially think Paths is the saddest film ever, but I've yet to see Dancer in the Dark. Donnie Darko also hit me pretty hard.

Field of Dreams not because it's a particularly great movie but because it's about a man following a dream through to the end no matter what those around him think of it or what the consequences might be.

Most war films based on realistic events with real people always get me thinking about how people can do the things these soldiers did and come through it all at the end. A Bridge Too Far and The Longest Day being prime examples of men fighting against all odds without thought for themselves but rather the job they have to do.
