I loved the last one so there wasn't any reason for me to doubt this one would be good too.
Yeah Casino Royale was really good. But I think kind of lacked in action.
Plus anything with Jeffrey Wright will be AWESOME!
i think it was a rather perfect romanticized version of Flemming's old job, which is exactly what Bond is.
i am psyched about Quantum in a big way.
still, i don't think any Bond film can top You Only Live Twice for me. Bond? in Japan? with ninjas? and mini, rocket- and machine gun-armed helicopters? cigarettes with mini missiles inside them? WIN

I dunno, man... I dig Craig as Bond. I dig the action we're seeing so far. I even like the fact that they're making a bond that continues a previous entry's story.
The only thing I can't get behind is Paul Haggis writing it so that Bond is some love-wounded teen. Bond is supposed to do his job because doing so would be for the good of Queen and Country, not because his heart got broken. Leave that emotionally-maimed, rogue agent with a vendetta schtick to other characters in other stories. This is James Bond, man.
Regardless, I'll be there to see it when it comes out.
Also: I concur with the Jeffrey Wright comment. He's awesome as Felix.

eh, I dont know, he's been on personal vendettas before (Licence to Kill, I think). and wasn't the death of Bond's wife in OHMSS used as a reason for him being emotionally wounded in later films? i'm sure either Brosnan or Dalton specifically referred back to it at one point.

both, actually. at Felix's wedding he catches the garter and looks a little pained when Felix's wife tells him he's going to be the next to marry, and in The World Is Not Enough he's asked if he's ever lost a loved one, and he quickly changes the subject after appearing a little uneasy.

good points; though I wasn't thinking of the first example, and I'm not sure it was the second, either. is there a scene near the end of Goldeneye where Izabella Scorupco's character asks him something similar?

You've got a point, but I feel like they handled the tragic element behind Bond well enough at the end of Casino Royal. I think the average moviegoer understands the impact it had on Bond. Making the follow-up focus around his desire to stop the evil organization behind Vesper's death be his drive (instead of, you know, the organization being evil and ruthless) seems like over kill.
I like the part in CR when "M" mentioned her worry for Bond's judgement, and he responded with "The bitch is dead." That shows his capacity for love shutting down, and it gets us back the Bond we all knew. Now, he just needs to go about his job because that is his duty, not because he has any personal stake in the matter.
I mean, that's just my two cents. I loved the old bond movies, save for the silly ass gadgets (the "Ghetto Blaster"?) and songs by Duran Duran.

been too long since i've seen Goldeneye.
*looks stuff up*
ok, that's right, but it's more a blanket statement. Trevelyan makes a crack asking bond whether he "found forgiveness in the arms of all those willing women for the dead ones" he failed to protect.
i don't think it's just the death of Vesper that's driving him. i mean, Bond is, at this point, a freshly-00'd secret agent. Vesper's betrayal taught him to detach himself from the emotions of other people, sure--but Vesper was his girl, and the bad guys killed her. Bond is hurt and angry, and he hasn't learned to distance himself from his own emotions. the way he sees things, he doesn't have to take this shit--he's a fucking superspy, man.
