I think you are thinking of yuppies. The hipsters I'm immersed in try to seem as broke as possible. PBR, burritos, fixed gear bikes, etc. Maybe that's just SF though.
I think hipsters are yuppies , only they dress and live like they are poor, much like most of the Silverlake community here in L.A.
