I've been watching it off and on the last few weeks since I read a review of it at whatever-dude.com. They're right, the only reasons to watch is Simon. I caught most of it last night, and it was pretty fucking abysmal, except for one performance by, uhm... whossername. The one that did a Patti LaBelle song first. That sucked hard. She shouldn't have attempted that. Her second was better. And that Justin kid... peeeyew. He really stank up that Michael Jackson song. He's got that hip racially amibuous thing going on, though, so all the teenie girlies scream for him and call in. The rest of the performances just aren't worth mentioning.

The co-hosts really, really suck ass. Probably each other's.

It's just a bad idea all around, I think, and I hate that I've watched any of it.

Yeah, this is a crappy teenie reality tv thread, not a crappy teenie drama superhero comicbook ripoff thread.

I think Paula Abdul should be shot, by the way.

back to the subject at hand, i'll go ahead and admit that it's my summer fascination. i just randomly caught an episode one night (when ryan starr was kicked) and i've been watching since then. last night, though, i was on an airplane, so i missed it. what was the theme? i don't care that i didn't see the performances, i KNOW who i want voted off. little miss "i'm kelly osbourne even though i used to be a cheerleader and i'm going to use my teenage pregnancy-born son to win pity votes from the audience so you won't notice my horrid performace"

i'm all about some tamyra. if she doesn't win, it will be justin, who just got the female population votes. ok, he has ncie hair. but that nose!

i was said to see rj go, too. he seemed endearing, although he was a hardcore christian. and gay, at that (i would guess).

I saw the little bastard hopping around during one episode and I just wanted to vomit. Cries for pIty make me vomit.

Haha. I don't know about any of that, but I about spat when Simon told him "Boy band, yes; American Idol, no." And of course, the audience booed. Not his best barb, but pointed, regardless. I'd love to be in the audience. I'd have an "MARRY ME SIMON!" sign, and I'd sream that I loved him. It would be awesome.

i'll admit it. i watch american idol. i was livid last night for missing the first 15 minutes. (crappy taxi driver!!!)

last night each contestant gave 2 performances. i'm not sure what the themes were.. 70's and 80's maybe? no one was voted off yet. that's tonight! i hope it's justin, but that's so laughable. i'm sure it will be nikki. who, coincidentally, i think would make a GREAT SG. if tamyra doesn't win, it will be tragic.

kelly is absolutely amazing. great voice and range and she really threw me for a loop last week when she rocked that total blues-y song.

what a great group of girls.
if we could only just get rid of that AWFUL guy.

I dunno why everybody rips on Simon. I mean, shit, he's only telling the truth!

I think the mistake most people (and probably 3 out of the 4 finalists) have been making is that they think they can sing like that without being trained professionally to use their voices as finely tuned instruments.

If they don't, they'll wear out their voice too quickly, and after a career of singing on a nightly basis, they'll probably fuck something up like grow nodes on thier vocal chords. Who knows.

"I wanna be like Mariah, so I'm going to be really loud and try to do lots of crazy notes! That will make me great!"

No, it won't. I know there's some sort of argument that it doesn't matter unless you're being expressive. Well, you can be expressive all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that you're shitty.

I don't claim to be a great vocalist. I'm not. I'm not tone deaf, but for the most part, I don't breath correctly, or get sound to vibrate the way it should in my head, or warm up when I should. Then again, I don't rationalize for it by saying that I'm "being expressive". I just say that I'm not doing what I should, and then try to remind myself to do it correctly. Not only that, but I don't think I should be a pop/r&b artist. I don't think any of them should be either. Shit, I don't think most of the people who already are should be.

Anybody can bust out a few notes: That makes you a singer.
Knowing how use your voice correctly: That makes you a vocalist.

Almost 100% of the people on that show have been singers, sometimes with pretty faces. I don't know if any of them are vocalists. So far I haven't thought so.

Paula Abdul, for instance, is not a vocalist. Which explains why she can't tell what's going on beyond what the contestant is wearing.

So, thanks America. I'm confident you'll pick the person who tickles your celebrity bone. Go eat more twinkies.

Oh, this has already started happening. They've been losing their voices and having nervous breakdowns. Just like their diva heroines!

Even Weird Al learned after his first week on tour all those years ago that he'd have to get voice lessons if he wanted to sing for the rest of his life.

I am surprised how popular the show has become. It is like Star Search with (at least some) pricks for judges. smile I don't like it at all, but that's just me. I see the people on there as saying, "My dream is to once host TRL." I know, I know, it really isn't like that, but... well maybe it is. wink

I swear she stole all of her moves from these two girls I went to high school and later partied with. 6 months after they moved to LA, Paula Abdul appeared on the scene doing the exact same shit they had been doing for the last couple of years. She must have seen them at a club or something

so can we all agree that nikki will get the boot tonight? i really don't see how she wouldn't.

and for her being a SG .. oh my lord NO. she seems SO fake to me. so much more so than anyone else. i'd rather see justin be suicide boy than see nikki on here.

oh. my. god.

what happened? i mean, really, what happened? yesterday i read a news report that said the rules of the show dictate that the producers can pick the winner. and now TAMYRA gets kicked off?

what the fuck?!

i was certain she was going to win. i honestly don't know how nikki has stayed in it since i started watching it. it's not just that she annoyes me, it's that she really does have the weakest voice.

i don't understand. i have no idea who will win now. i'd prefer kelly.

And Tamyra was smiling because she knows she's so much better. She really does have the better voice. You could tell just by listening to her sing after she lost. And what the fuck is that about, anyhow? It's bad enough they show a clip montage that makes it look like the booted kids died...

God, that makes me sound like I care.

And the fact that I still posted this 7 hours after the show ended doesn't help.

i, too, had tamyra for hands down winner.

if i was in nikki's shoes, i would have been crying too.
it totally should have been her.
she has to know that.

Nikki is SO untalented. Why the fuck wasn't Simon honest and tell her she sounded like shit? Her version of "The Only One" was horrible!! I've sand that song better!! LOL tongue

I think Kelly is the best singer/vocalist. She has been CONSISTANTLY wonderful and shows way more versatility than Tamyra. Tamyra sings Celine, Whitney, Mariah, and Gospel well. That is what she's good at. Did you see what happened when Tamyra tried to tackle "I've got a new attitude"? She couldn't do it. What did Kelly do? KNOCK US OUT with not one, but TWO difficult songs at a time where all their voices were strained.

GO KELLY!!!! biggrin love biggrin

Tamyra may be the next Whitney, but Kelly will tackle Hollywood, period. She can do it all. smile

you make good points, INKED.
i agree, kelly has major talent.
i do think, however, you might not be giving tamyra all the credit she deserves. her big band set was ASTOUNDING.
skat is not easy. breathing and intonation and all that jazz ( whatever ). i really think she nailed that.

there is no doubt that they will both go on to do great things.

justin, however, will end up singing for teeny boppers for the rest of his career... if he's lucky.

I felt like Kelly's was better when she sang "Stuff like that there." Tamyra kind of stumbled over the scatting stuff a little. Kelly sounded like she was born to sing "Stuff like that there." love
