But it has since redeemed itself by being not only the greatest SF picture ever made, but also in general, one of the best films ever made.

I'm pretty sure Bringing Out The Dead was box office poison. i think It's one of Scorsese's most underrated films.

I have a friend who is a paramedic and he said that's a pretty accurate picture of what the job is at times.

Yeah, I ride an ambulance at my job sometimes...and they really got the medic scenes down well. It helps, however, that the book was written by a former NYC Medic.

I think if it had a better actor in it,then it would have been better. As far as underrated Scorsese films go I must say "After Hours" fits that bill.I don't like his new stuff,at least his last 3 films. That last one was like a faint memory of his good work.Im so tired of his use of "gimme Shelter" ...please its as bad as Tarantino masturbating to his own work in "Death Proof" during that table scene with the girls....

Which actor? Aside from the wooden Patricia Arquette...I thought the movie was perfectly cast.

Nic cage, whom I usually like ,even when he is over acting.I don't know, I have not seen it in awhile.Maybe I need to watch it again.I just remember not being into it ,maybe it was th hype since it was Scorsese and Paul Schrader again. Scorsese did adapt an interesting short script of Hitchcock's, which is somewhere on youtube I'm sure. That made up for the last 3 films of his which fell flat. As for good movies not doing well in the theater, I have to say "Twin Peaks :Fire walk With Me" ....probably one of the best Lynch films ever, I can watch it over and over again. It is very inspired by Mario Bava's "Kill Baby Kill" ...beautiful cinematography ....everything.Fans hated it because it was not like of the show, which was the whole point. It was Laura's story ,which was one of loss and darkness.

Oh, she's hot ( or used to be) But she couldn't act surprised if you jumped out of her closet with a hockey mask & a chainsaw. She is just dreadful to watch on film.

Well...personal taste is personal taste....but I thought he was perfect for the part. Creepy, but likable.....crazy, but still able to do his job. I thought he did a great job.

I guess I have to watch it again. And that short is called " Key to Reserva" which I guess is actually a advertisement, and is a homage to Hitchcock, not directed from a lost script

I'm pretty sure that both Bringing Up Baby and It's A Wonderful Life were colossal box office failures, only to be seen as classics 40-some years later.

I had co worker say the same thing. It's basically to an EMS medic the most realistic movie about them. That and Rescue 911

I may be wrong, but I believe This is Spinal Tap didn't do well in theaters, but is undeniably one of the funniest films ever made.
