MTV is developing a remake of 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, reports Variety.

Lou Adler, executive producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

The new version will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

The director and casting decisions have yet to be announced.

I'm of mixed feelings on this. I've been doing Rocky for 7 years now, so I think I can safely say that, as a movie, it really fucking sucks. To be honest, it's horrible, and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves.

Normally, I'd say that remaking a movie this bad could only create something better than the origional. But it's being remade by MTV, which has an unearthly power to make everything it touches shitier than imagined.

So can MTV make something as awful as Rocky even worse?

I've never quite understood Rocky Horror (I only saw a production once, and that was because a friend was playing Janet and she guilted me into it), so please pardon me if I'm being naive... but isn't the whole point of the show the fact that it's really bad? Isn't it about the experience more than the film/play itself?

So....a crappy TV network geared towards teenagers....is going to remake a crappy movie geared towards teenagers.

I rank people who do Rocky Horror somewhere in between people who do "The Wave" at sporting events.....and The Electric Slide at weddings.

The Electric Slide is the bottom-feeder category. There is nothing more depressing (read: entertaining to ME) than a bunch of your family members half-heartedly doing this horrible, horrible dance.

The electric slide is proof that white people shouldn't legally be allowed to dance. Had Kevin Bacon done the Electric Slide...John Lithgow never would have relented.

i would argue that, at this point, how "good" or "bad" RHPS is has become irrelevant. people don't enjoy it for its own sake, they enjoy it for the ridiculousness that's been built on it.

Sorry it doesn't work that way. Train wrecks aren't fun to watch, but it's hard to tear your eyes away from one. I, for one, plan to MST3K the feature.

But it's pretty easy to avoid being near the train wreck if you know it's going to happen.
