Alright so I was at this David Lynch Transcendental Meditation benefit thing at the Key Club last week and I found this booklet in my gift bag telling me how to transform my health by having,or going on a juice diet. This apparently will create spiritual cleansing as well,or at least thats what the celebrity on the pamphlet says.It goes on to say "I have been juicing for myself since April 1999 and over the years have crafted what many deem to be the best lip-smackin nutrient packin juice on the planet." So has anyone juiced, and have you found yourself spiritually ?

Everything you post is pure crap...I want you to know this.

most of your replies are pure crap for the most part as well, but Im glad I could take what, 2 ..3 seconds out of your life which you will never get back again just to make your point. biggrin

Fruit juices are fine, but anyone who reckons they can make any kind of veg juice taste ok is talking... err... shit, literally.

There are people who reckon they've sent cancer into remisiion from eating purely raw and juicing a percentage of their raw foods every day.
So yeah, I juice for the health benefits. Actually I juice every day, in fact I might get a t-shirt made with that on and see how far down the street I can make it before being buried under euphemism repurcussion. Just put that in the diary...

It's not the juice, people, it's the living enzymes that you consume via the juice; it's the so-very-little amount of work your system has to accomplish in order to digest said juice; it's about removing levels of abstraction from the sun and breaking down barriers to nutrient absorption; it's about treating your body like the bio-machine that it is and taking the responsibility of upkeep seriously. When you input a slurry of pure nutritional value your body reacts with higher functioning: thoughts come more quickly; energy lasts longer; less sleep is needed; mood is elevated and regulated; sensations are more acute. The body, which is the vehicle for our actions and the roadways for our thoughts, simply functions better on a raw (juice? sure) diet. This could most definitely change the world if more people did it. Imagine a population of people who haven't been dumbed- and slowed-down by a diet that takes more energy to process than it provides the body; a population where everyone is generally happy because their diet elevates their mood for them and prepares them to react more positively to negative situations; a population that can't help but think critically about the state of things because their hyper-active brains are incapable of not thinking critically. Sounds like a whole new brew to me.

But y'all can stay committed to your cynicism. I can see it is not serving you from here, but hey, I'd never presume to tell you what you should do with your lives.

good timing here, I'll quote directly from michael shermer's column in this very month's scientific american:

According to William T. Jarvis, a retired professor of public health at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine and founder of the national Council against Health Fraud (www.ncahf.org), this is all baloney: "Enzymes are complex protein molecules produced by living organisms exclusively for their own use in promoting chemical reactions. Orally ingested enzymes are digested in the stomach and have no enzymatic activity in the eater."

it makes sense that enzymes would be broken down in the stomach along with all other protein, but I didn't know that specifically before reading this month's skeptic. however I would think that anyone who has a decent grasp on what enzymes are and what they're for would seriously doubt the idea that having a surplus of enzymes made by some plant floating around in your system would do you a whole lot of good.

your other point, the idea that most people's diet takes more energy to digest than it provides the body, is... odd. if you take in less energy than you burn, you starve to death... which I'd have thought was extremely obvious. two facts to consider here-- 1: fat is the body's way of storing surplus energy for later, and 2: we are supposedly having an obesity epidemic in the western world right now. we are pounding our bodies with so much extra energy they can't even handle it. we are killing ourselves with energy.
