I had a homeless man that I worked with tell me that you can use a newspaper as a good means of self-defense. You roll it up really tight and then jab the fucker in the throat with it and it'll fuck him up. Then when the police come, you can act like you didn't attack him, cause he's not gonna believe you fucked some dude up with a newspaper. Although the way he worded it, it sounded less like self-defense and more like attacking someone you don't like.

Also he told me to use my car keys to gouge someone's eyes out if I didn't have a weapon.

Homeless people rock!!

This will certainly help LankaKitten in her quest for fitness. Many thanks to you.

As far as I can tell this thread has mostly been 5 pages of martial arts nerds debating over "witch is teh bestest".

And you've totally sorted us out on that score, Mr Reading Comprehension.

Well its a damn good thing you were here to save the thread from going off topic!!!

HUZZAH THREAD POLICE!!!

Carrying a knife if you know nothing about defending yourself is worse than useless. But I guess technically it is legal.

Just saying, most women can carry a knife of a large enough size to defenc yoursef with.
There's not a whole lot of training that goes along with a knife for defense in an emergency situation. The worst move is to be too scared to use it. To hesitate and be disarmed.

I've been told by many people, from cops to experienced street fighters, that attackers are much more likely to take your knife from you and use it against you than you are to be able to defend yourself with it. I feel this is especially true for women who have never been in a fight and/ or know nothing about martial arts.

You, I am sure, are able to abandon the mindset that makes women such easy targets (docility, niceness at any cost), but many other women are not, including sometimes myself. I would rather be trained to defend myself without a knife and then decide if I want to carry one for extra protection than have a knife and little ability to defend myself with it.

A rolled up newspaper and car-keys are the new self-defence black, apparently.

What he said!

Also, I'll be attending Boxing 101 this evening. I found a casual studio nearby that also has kickboxing. I feel pleased with those two.

Which is what i meant by it being dangerous to be disarmed.

Is it because my mindset is naturally selfish and therefor self portecting that i can abandon it so easily, i wonder?
Well, that was what we were all trying to help with before it got derailed. A woman having the power and knowledge to do what she needs to do to defend herself.

No.

What about you and I? One cosmo, two straws?

Oooh, how did I miss this?

One Cosmo, two straws, at a burlesque show. It has to be.

I know, i was a bit hurt at the lack of response.

I'll put my straw in your drink anywhere you want.
I think you know what i'm saying here.

It's amazing. Going from beginning to end of the quoted exchanges is like going from ridiculous to sublime.

I'd forgotten the world could be this way. A kind cocktail straw world rather than a scary switchblade world.
