This thread is priceless for the nitpicking about specific levels of pretentious douchebaggery.

"I may have been a pretentious such-and-such, but the so-and-sos are the real douchebags! Them and their dumb accessorizing with fill-in-the-blanks!"

I think im definitely a pretentious douche ...

One thing I have learned is to really BULLSHIT at school, and how to sound profound about a work, if I sense the confusion in my other peers when I talk then I know I am onto something good.

puke I fucking hate this attitude....it only lends it's hand to those who really can't make work and therefore have to bullshit and make everyone elses lives miserable while we have to sit through the crit rolling our eyes.

well I can assure you that my work is anything but bullshit,I get what your saying though. In general I hate the crit part because I think its ridiculous to try and explain your work to someone. The funny part is that the one time I did just make something up on the spot everyone bought into as opposed to the many times I tried to illustrate my point on my work. It seems like the main point of crit classes are to attack the person in order for them to defend their work.I have found that most people in my classes bullshit their way through it ,mostly because they have nothing to say.

You've made it pretty clear that your work is bullshit and that the only way you can get anyone to accept it is by trying to confuse them by sounding profound.
I think what you are too daft to realize is you don't sound profound at all. You sound like a fifteen year old that just finished their first philosophy class.

Just a tip, The confusion you sense, isn't something good. You aren't on to anything.
Using art-speak and big words is about as transparent as it comes and if you really believe your inadequacy is hidden behind that thin veil of pompous assery you are going to be in for a shock.

As I understand criticism (and how I teach it to my writing students), the artist or writer is not supposed to explain their work, or even respond to the criticism. People don't care what you intended with your work, and whatever their response is, telling them that it is wrong shows a marked lack of creativity and thought on the part of the artist.

So, to put it bluntly, you don't get to say if your work is bullshit or not.

I would like to offer my own, unique criticism...in the form of poetry:

Your poetry is very compelling. Did you go to art school too?

Can one really "GO" to art school? While it is true my being has inhabited the brick & mortar walls of what some may call a formalized art school...one cannot expect a moment of earthly time to define what has become my art.

For...you see...I view my word-art as an extention of life itself..perpetuated by an existential connection between the "what is" and the "what could be"...notwithstanding the social constraints placed upon us by societal norms.
