I went to art college! It was the best thing ever. I majored in illustration though, so I got a degree in design rather than fine arts. There is a world of difference. Designers are a whole different class of snob.

I think im definitely a pretentious douche ...I am always trying to explain to people at work why the movies put on Criterion are so important,as well as hopelessly trying to explain what the filmmaker was trying to say in a movie like "SALO 120 Days of Sodom." One thing I have learned is to really BULLSHIT at school,and how to sound profound about a work, if I sense the confusion in my other peers when I talk then I know I am onto something good. I did one piece which was vey abstract and represented what I saw when having sex.I really just sorta made up the theme ...or description of the painting as I walked into class.I was hailed as really breaking the boundary of my previous work which had before been seen as cliche and misogynistic.I have to say I do enjoy some parts and am completely baffled when nobody in my class has anything to say.Im still debating whether I actually want to say as I have thought of taking up the more cliche route of an L.A resident "ACTING"....I think I will be good at this considering the practice I have been doing in art school.

the critiques in my rethinking art class were all about that,I think its really a useless concept,peers critiquing one another's work,actually critique in general.However I do some times enjoy response to my work,which kind creates another dimension to it,but not a relevant one in my eyes.Everything I do for the most part is unconscious,trying to verbalize it or intellectualize it just ruins the whole process of the piece. For some reason people want answers,I think art for the most part is a Rorschach test ...all the girls in my class thought I was a misogynist,but maybe it was really them who had the issues.

I took one art class. Drawing 110. It was basically charcoals and conte crayon for figure drawing.

I made an A , and never took another class again. I should rethink that.

I got in trouble every day for telling the flamboyant gay guy in the class the shut the fuck up, because he talked more than he drew. After a few weeks, the teacher (a grad student that looked a lot like bean) started to agree with me.

thats a bold statement with no real example. I learned that bullshit or pretension got me through some of the horrid critique classes I was made to take.In actuality I am quite genuine about how I approach things,especially my art.I made up the theme to that particular painting ( which I will try and post) as an experiment just to see how the class would react.It was my feeling that most of the kids were doing this with their work,that or they had nothing to say which is just as bad if not worse,so I did it myself and the bullshit worked.before that I was in constant argument ,trying to defend my work and point out what they were not seeing or telling them that what they pointed out was completely wrong and had no relevance.Critique classes are interesting as they are mostly reflecting the artist and not the art. P.s. If you want I will talk about why CRITERION is such an important collection but since you hate artists like me I will not bother.

what problem exactly...? I think its been established by most people that they are in some way a hypocrite or harbor some pretension in them.Just cause I bullshit some stuff does not mean I have a complete lack of insight.I have more or less learned to deal with the environment in which I harbor. There is snobbery everywhere in different degrees,and SG has it as well.

Oh, douchery finds its way into all levels of college society. We've discussed the art-snob douches. And the frat/sorority douches are evident. But there are plenty of others. My best friend went to RISD so I was there a lot and am friends with most of her friends, who I guess would basically fit into the "hipster douchebag" category.

RISD had a lot of naked parties, a lot of orgies, a lot of lesbians, a lot of cocaine... if that's basically what art school is like, then I guess RISD is typical but it was the last thing from typical the years that I was hanging out there.

I am definetely not a hipster douchebag thats for sure....that is a whole other level of douchery deserving its own conversation board.
