You will be bludgeoned with a VHS until you comply.

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

He said "films" what a prick... just say movie like the rest of us uncultured barbarians. biggrin

I do have a degree in film. And I will unabashedly admit that I can be pretentious snob. wink biggrin

That being said, I feel that 'Requiem For A Dream' and 'Donnie Darko' are shit films. Anything by Tarantino or Rodriguez and 'Eternal Sunshine,' 'Amelie,' and 'Boondock Saints' are overrated. Same goes for 'American Beauty'

I do rather like VHS. There's a sort-of sweet quality to it.

You think they are. I don't think so about any of them; I see the appeal they have to every different audience.

I've always felt Rodriguez was underrated.

To-may-toe, to-ma-toe, I suppose.

At least you and I can probably agree on the film I'm currently watching, Control. wink

I haven't actually seen the movie . However , more popular then Fight Club ? Really ? It may well be , I am just wondering out loud .

These numbers are representative, not absolute, of course, with Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind being our baseline, and the other films expressed as multiples of the baseline, so "4.2" would mean that that film appeared on 4.2 times as many top 10 lists as Eternal Sunshine did.

Fight Club: 2.46
Pulp Fiction: 1.42
Donnie Darko: 1.39
Boondock Saints: 1.11
Star Wars: 1.1
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: 1
Amelie: 0.93
Kill Bill (any of them): 0.85
A Clockwork Orange: 0.84
Requiem For a Dream: 0.79
The Big Lebowski: 0.69

Most of the popular-ish movies (Secretary, Shaun of the Dead, Edward Scizzorhands, Rushmore, Garden State, Blade Runner, The Princess Bride, Rocky Horror) end up around .4-.5, so Eternal Sunshine is pretty far up there, though I don't have an exhaustive list or anything like that, so there may be another dozen movies above Fight Club that I haven't thought of. In other words, it's not a scientific survey, but it's kind of interesting, and without a doubt, Eternal Sunshine is not the most popular.

That is fantastic!!

Is there any possible way somebody could find out which sun sign is the most prevalent on SG?

I'd really like to know.

I don't like how Garden State is so popular.

Sarsgaard was the best from that movie.

Zach tried to hard to be depressed.

Portman well she was just Portman cute as always. smile

no, Braff's character tried hard to have any sort of emotion at all, period. that was the point. he was so heavily medicated, he didn't really feel anything. that basic idea speaks to a lot of the people that would call SG a home.

I agree, I think Zach did an awesome job in the roll, and I really liked the movie.

that and dude knows how to pick music for his movie.

correct me if i'm wrong, but didnt he write the movie based on the music, not the other way around?

from what i've read, it sounds like both were happening at the same time. so neither, i guess. all i know is that even if i didn't like the movie (and i love it), the soundtrack is good enough to stand alone as its own entity.

That record has a permanent spot on my iPod which is pretty rare seeing as I only have a 4gig nano at the moment.

'Donnie Darko' is a pretentious little film that tries to be something greater than what it actually is. It's David Lynch for younger viewers if Lynch was a coward and wanted to play it safe.

Oh yeah, and the "Director's Cut," yeah, just add some passages from a fake book and you've made something profound. whatever

That made my day.

EDIT: I hate Donnie Darko because I listened to the Director explaining the movie. That guy seriously has no clue what his movie is about.

I hated the Director's Cut honestly and preferred the enigmatic feel of the original.

As for the whole David Lynch thang... I don't know anything about him and I don't think I've seen anything of his. But then again I'm not a big "film" buff. So its hard for me to defend Donnie Darko based off of that.

lets just say, if people think Donnie Darko was a mindfuck, then any David Lynch film is a 48hour orgy.

go watch "Eraserhead," "Blue Velvet," and "Mulholland Drive." Then watch the entire series of "Twin Peaks," along with "Lost Highway" and "Inland Empire." And then for something totally different, watch "The Elephant Man" and "The Straight Story."

Were there any Emos when Donnie Darko came out in 2002ish?

It seems a lot of Emos love Donnie Darko.

I just enjoy watching movies that require multiple viewings before gaining any understanding into them. Something that requires thinking.

Also I don't think the Emo phenomenon fully took hold until around 2004 or 2005... or at least thats when people decided to start calling me one despite little change in appearance.

Emo had officially evolved from being some new form of independent style of music into a disgusting phase of wanna-be "pop-punk" by the time Donnie Darko came out. But it was still a baby for a little bit longer.

I liked Darko, It's still confusing as fuck to me. But second viewing made it a better movie. Of course that was the Directors Cut!
