I applied to start a group called Leaving the Fold. My request was denied. This group would act as a discussion and support group for all of those who've experienced rejection by fundamentalist family, friends, or their community due to their lifestyle choices. Speaking as someone who came from the extremes of Judaism, I know that many people go through this or a similar experience, and I thought that here especially, where so many SG members live alternative lifestyles, there would be a need or desire for such a group. I don't feel that this topic is covered in the existing religion groups. Apparently, the Mods disagree with me, so I wanted to ask the SG community, is this something that is an interest to you? Would YOU be willing to come forth and share YOUR story with a group of supportive peers?

To be clear, fundamentalism refers to everything extreme in religion, from born-again Christians to LDS to Hasidic Judaism to strict Catholicism to many different forms of Islam, and that doesn't even begin to cover it. There are even fundamentalist atheists!

Thanks for your support!

Just to warn you, this isn't really the way we do things around here. Stick around for a while, observe the community, figure out how groups work, and then maybe try re-applying. Also, check this thread out. But, SG isn't a particularly democratic establishment, so don't expect the community to start a petition circulating to get your group going.

Not for me, but it's a pretty interesting idea for a group.

In her defense....as far as threads regarding religion go....and how threads in GENERAL go...it was pretty well-written, non-whiny and...all-in-all...pretty benign.

I'll take 10 of these threads for one typed word by misterlinguist or vanillanight.

Oh, I wasn't intending to attack. I just wanted to warn the OP not to expect too much from this thread, and to give it another shot after getting better acquainted with the community, and I wanted to do it before things get snarky.

Interesting idea for a group but it does not relate to my life. Good luck getting it started it would be interesting to read.
