Hello everyone on SG,I am writing this as a part of my final in my LAnguage of the movining image class. What I am hoping to get out of you...especially f your in the 25-30 age range is where are you in life ,what is it like growing up and working in this new Millennium...? how has the world changed for you personally since the year 2000 ....express your opinion on the outrageous price changes in food and gas ....and how it affects you..? have you given up on our so called American dream...? what drives you to keep going...? or have you become entirely nihilistic that there can be any change in our system...? Tell me where you are in life and where you want to be....thanks for answering and please be as descriptive and honest as possible.

Language of the Moving Image? is that a film course of some sort?

Also, in response to yr query, I think that if you organize yr questions into some sort of list, then we'd probably oblige you.

I see all the negative things about life.
Like you pointed out. Life is getting more expensive now.
It's really unfair to the families that are struggling. frown

I don't want to go detail how much my life sucks.

So I'll just say this..

It makes me wish I lived in the 1950's with 25 cent turkey sandwiches!

I am so answering these questions when I get home tonight. I find it out if I'm getting hired, and that may or may not change my perception to these questions.

I'm 25 and in 2000 I was still in high school, so a lot has changed for me that had nothing to do with the zeitgeist. I don't know that I'm old enough or have been working long enough to know how 9/11, the internet, and the recession have changed working life.

What is it like growing up in the new millenium. Hm. I'm used to constant contact and validation from my peers.

Prices of food and gas haven't registered for me yet. I do not drive so gas prices don't affect me directly. Since I moved out of my parents' house I haven't grocery shopped in the same city consistently enough to notice the food prices going up. I think maybe living in an expensive, restaurant-oriented city has muddled that issue for me.

I haven't given up on the American dream, to the extent that I ever shared it. I don't expect ever to be rich, or to have a nice house in a nice town with a kid and a dog and so forth. I never want kids, I'll probably never own property. I just want to be comfortable and be able to have leisure time.

Nothing keeps me going, I guess, except that stopping isn't really an option.

I think our system is headed for change whether we want it or not.

I'm a 25 year old college graduate office bee. I want to be a writer.

You work in an Office, Thistle? You seemed more like a bartender/writer than any desk-bound wage slave.

1) Working on building experience in my chosen proffesion while figuring out wha to do next now that I am done with school.
2) I would like to own a home, a place that I can nest in and then breed.
3) I have accomplished a lot more than I would have expected of myself in 2001. I have finished college and am involved with life or death situations at work. I am also incredibly happy with my partner and excited about our future.
4) It's tempting sometimes, but I think pessimism is the easy way out and am a pollyanna hope junkie. Anything less makes me want to kill myself out of guilt and fear. I have changed my dreams a lot as what makes me happy has changed a lot. I would still like to travel more and spend time on my creative side.
5) Not as bad as a lot of other places. I feel lucky to have had the opportunities that I have had and the opportunity to fight for changes I would like to see happen.

As far at outragous prices go, as long as people have cable, cell phones, wii's and are buying beer, I think things aren't as bad as people are letting on.

I don't drive much and cook a lot from scratch so I haven't felt affected much.

If I may suggest a few things on this project.

1. Don't use a list of questions. That limits the answers you will get.
2. Your prejudices are showing. If you ask negative questions, you will get negative answers, which will not show the true range of answers. Try something more neutral.
3. Check out this from last Friday's Bill Moyers Journal for some ideas.

I'm not a desk-bound wage slave, but I do work in an office. I am also a writer. MAGICAL isn't it, how I can be both?

I think I read a myspace 'survey' that was basically the same thing but it was more succinct.

No. He said this is for a documentary. When you start to interview someone with a set list of questions, you limit the answers you may get.

Of course, if he is just conducting a survey (althought I'm not sure how a survey turns into a documentary) then yes, there should be a list of questions. But interviews need to be more fluid.

1) Grad school in a foreign country.
2) I am right on track.
3) I had no idea I could do what I'm doing now in 2001.
4) I have left old dreams and succumbed to much newer, brighter, and flexible dreams.
5) American life can suck. The American dream is revolting. So repulsive, in fact, that I refuse to waste my time thinking about it.
