Glory- Amazing movie about the first black unit to be used for combat (instead of manual labor) in the Union during the Civil War. Also gave me a historical jumping off point when I visited Fort Sumter (in Charleston).

Such an awesome movie. Still get goosebumps. Every. Time.

Star Wars - I was 5 when I saw it...twice, both at the drive-in thanks to my fantastic parents who introduced me to science fiction. I fell in love with the genre at an early age because of my parents and this film. It eventually got me into reading as I got a bit older, which I think really helped me become a more intelligent and curious person.

The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Sea Hawk, and Captain Blood- I put them all together because they are all Errol Flynn movies. It really got me into classic film. I had a very early appreciation for so many classic films and actors once I discovered these 3 movies.

Spartacus This was the first real epic film I ever remember seeing. I love ancient history, and this film had a great story with great actors. What more could you ask for, Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons and a very young Tony Curtis. Stanley Kubrick directed of course...such an awesome movie..it was my favorite for years until something else moved into the #1 slot.

The Natural I already loved baseball because my parents shared a deep love of baseball. They also loved sports in general but that's another topic. When I saw this movie it just felt so ...right. I can't think of another word. It made me think of old time baseball. I started more and more to look back further into baseball history. To enjoy reading stories about Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson and other old time greats. I actually went to the same small college that Christy Mathewson went to that was in the town he grew up in ..a little place called Factoryville, PA. But this movie had a good story, with great emotion. Redfords character was larger then life, but humble at the same time.

V for Vendetta Probably my 3rd favorite movie of all time. I love the message in it. I love how it is put forth. I love how it makes me feel deep down every time I watch it. I think it was an important film, and I wish more people would see it and understand it's message. It really helped to open my eyes more and view the political climate we're in. I really don't think I've paid attention like I should have over the last 12 years or so like I should have. This movie helped to wake me up and I now try to learn more and to understand more. There are some people in this community who I really have to thank for being as intelligent as they are on politics because it really has helped me in my learning process.

honorable mention : Children of Men, Hoosiers,The Seven Samurai, Blade Runner

Hi Folks new here, and being the film fanatic I am got immediately drawn to this conversation.

5 life changing movies

Tron

Blade Runner

Big Lebowski

Alien

Horror of Dracula

Saw Tron, Blade Runner, and Dracula all before the age of 10, and my love of computer wizardry, film noir, cyberpunk, and Hammer Horror all stem from the effect they had on me.

Alien - take a load of 50s sci-fi b-movies, add texas chainsaw massacre, and make it look like 2001 gone rusty. Brilliant.

Big Lebowski - I loved this film when it came out. A friend of mine knew I did. Not only did he get me the poster used to advertise the film at the cinema, he also knew the projectionist, resulting in me revceiing 5 frames cut from the print of the film.

The Last Picture Show

Taxi Driver

Night of the Living Dead

There's really only 3 that have just stunned me when I first viewed them (and subsequent viewings later) that all the themes, ideas, concepts, and feelings really stuck with me. I dont necessarily think they have changed my outlook on life, but as someone who always has his creative side of his brain on they really helped shape and mold me in my own thoughts and work that has come from them. Without those 3 I don't think I would have understood the idea's of storytelling and using imagery and feel as a way to convey the story rather than it being spoken aloud. it is an odd list now that I look at it typed in front of me.
