Okay, so I had the lady at the salon cut my hair into a pompadour but i for the life of me can't make it do what she did. Can anyone give me any tips or tricks or good products to use? anything would be of great help thanks.

well... it depends on what kinda hair you got.

My first recommendation is to not use Murray's or any of the 'traditional' hair pomades. I prefer American Greaser Supply 90wt Flat-Top wax. It washes out very easily, doesn't smell bad and is easy to work with. My hair is pretty fine and it holds pretty well.

Next, get your comb out and go to work. I'd recommend getting a few different sized combs (like the teeth size and spacing) so you can figure out what works best.

I towel my hair dry and then get a good bit on my fingers and then work it up vigorously in my hands before applying to my hair. Then I comb my hair straight back a few time before doing the 'up' maneuver .

Also, check this out: how to but again, I recommend not using Murray's unless you want to have a big stain on your pillow and big gross flakes in your hair.

I'll bet you do. Then do you have a smoke afterwards?

Thanks, tuffy.

My own pompadour was a sadly pathetic thing, and your pompadour tips will make my next foray into the hairstyle far more sucessful.

Best haircut I ever got was a pompadour for $10 at Best Cuts. *sigh*

tuffy, thanks so much for the advice. i got some really good flat top wax from a barbershop in town and it is seriously the best thing i have tried. didn't even know it existed before you let me know about it. it turned out great and now i can achieve the james dean look i've always wanted.

My barber recommended I check out this stuff. It's a very light cream but it has pretty good hold and doesn't dry your out. So far, I like it ok. I hate that it smells like coconut.
