I was wondering when people here are serious and when they're joking. Y'see, whenever I post on the boards, any boards, I'm not being serious, I'm trying to be a smart-ass (though I usually just succeed in being a dumb-ass). This is, of course, why I don't post on the Current Events board and rarely post anywhere but Lifestyle.

So, what's your rule? Mine is this: the boards are for play; in journals, however, I'm almost completely serious (though not without humour). Groups are usually both. Now you: Have you noticed a trend with your posting? Is there a trend to notice? Do you even care?

Discuss.

I'm snarky everywhere I post. I don't discriminate. biggrin

I will, however, get serious if it's a serious topic (like a friend's depression, a thread about rape or abortion, etc).

I'm usually not serious. Unless it's a serious topic. I guess I normally use a smiley or two if I'm being silly. I think I'm still misunderstood a lot though.

I haven't been here that long but, it has been long enough to figure out that i would be better off just being a smartass on the boards and try not to get to serious.
As far as groups go i think that would pretty situational, and journals would be a matter of personal perogative wouldn't they.

I post to amuse myself. If it's a serious topic and I can make some kind of contribution, I'll be serious. If I can't, I'll be flippant, or I'll just shut up. Sometimes the flippancy is of the "You can'r seriously mean what you just said, surely?" kind, and sometimes it's just cos I think of something that'll amuse me. If someone else enjoys it, that's nice too.

Groups and journals are situational, as someone just said. But in those areas, I'm not posting to amuse myself so much as to interact with a person or people. On the boards, I never presume that anyone will care (or even read) what I say.

It depends on my mood and the topic, mainly. I try to use some kind of indicator when I'm joking because my deadpan tends to be too deadpan.

No, seriously.

See, I'm pretty much the opposite. When posting in journals, or sets I'm usually a smart ass, and in the groups, and boards I'm serious. I think I'm not too afraid of the repurcussions if one person misunderstands me, but if I say the wrong thing in front of EVERYONE.

If I'm trying to be serious, I'm usually quite serious. Sadly, that doesn't happen often. In journals mostly. In the Lifestyles and Dirty Talk boards...I'm an idiot usually. Just having good fun with people.

i'm seriously very serious all the time. seriously.

i dunno. i'm usually being honest, so whether that's being serious or playing for laughs depends on the topic and my mood. also, what i'm replying to. i can be a jackass if i get pissed off, although i usually regret it later for some reason.

i will say, if there's a serious discussion going on, and it degenerates into silliness, that tends to annoy me, regardless of whether people have simply moved on, or people have just stopped taking it seriously.

unless i'm not involved in the discussion, then it can amuse me.

if you read my journal(my real one, not this one) i tend to move back and forth depending on how i'm feeling. i'll rant about life's troubles one minute, then talk about some toy i want to buy the next. there's no consistency. i don't overtly try to be one or the other.

It depends on the topic.
I do have a very dry sense of humor (boardering on permanent sarcasm) that doesn't always translate well to the written word, which is why I then break out he emoticons...
