Yes, we call them soft drinks, but it's quite uncommon. You'll see it on menus or a commercial or in a magazine article about health, but I've never heard anyone actually say it.

I find it really weird that anyone calls Pepsi or Coke or whatever 'pop' or 'soda.' When I hear pop, I think the kind of music, and soda makes me think of soda water. I assume people call them soft drinks in the US as well?

Only when we want to be lame. Wanker.

Yeah, I reckon I'm pretty fuckin' awesome because I call Coke a soft drink. Fuck yes.
Anyway, it was an actual question. Are they called soft drinks?

Oh. Yeah. They are.

And don't take me seriously, please. If it's in the boards, it's a joke. If it's in a journal, I'm being serious. Hey, that gives me an idea for a thread.

well people might change there order when you tell them you serve pepsi not coke because they would rather have something else rather than pepsi (ever think of that).
The reason People never sent the cheap substitute you used for coke back was probably because when they tasted it they thought something like......"Damn this is shitty tasting coke premix!"
I dont know just a theory, or it could be that only aliens eat at the restaurant where you work and it goes against there protocal.

I drink mass quantities of Coke. I hate Pepsi. I can totaly tell the difference. I will always order Dr. Pepper instead if they don't have Coke. I used to work at a club that served RC and said it was Coke too. I never had anyone complain either but I think it was due to the fact that it was used to mix drinks so the taste wasn't as apperant. Coke rules!

Many people won't drink Pepsi because of the company's human rights violations in Burma. Actually, after reading this thread - I could probably change the previous statement to "many of my political friends won't..." So never mind.

Has anybody else noticed that Coke always tastes nicest when it comes in a can? The bottles and stuff from pubs and restaurants NEVER taste as good as canned coke.

I drink no soda at all. Carbonated water in vast quantities (1.5L/day). Sometimes I mix a little juice in the bubble water, not very often.
Coke just has not been interesting since they took the coca out.

I take the pepsi challenge and win, everytime. I... am a great man.

That aside, I wouldn't change orders. But pepsi is too sweet. However, the taste is usually nullified by incorrect mixtures from the fountain.

i had a disagreement with the beverage manager at my restaurant over coke. i tried to convince him that the best coke ever comes out of the fountains at mcdonalds. he says it's all exactly the same everywhere, but i steadfastly disagreed. arby's also has really great coke ... totally different from mickey ds. arby's coke is somehow smoother.

i love coke in a can with pizza but it makes me explode. also, i know it's just me, but it seems like the taste of coke in a can has changed over the last couple of years. it's been a while since i've had a really great coke in a can. i remember a few years ago, i got the best case of coke ever -- it was when they were having their christmas packaging. those were the days. =]

all sodas in bottles are awful. i was at a greek festival recently where the only options for drinks were plastic bottled pepsi products. i love me some dew, but i chose dehydration over one sip from a bottle. it just kills the flavor.

glass bottles, however, are the ultimate. i had mountain dew in a glass bottle a few years ago in orange county, ca.

i don't even remember what pepsi tastes like, but i know i hate it. fortunately, if you have pepsi products, you probably have the dew.

it really disconcerts me when i see a machine that has both coke and pepsi products. i even saw a fountain at blimpies that had all coke products, and a coke logo...but it had mountain dew as an option as well. eeek

and that is all i have to say about sodas.

It's all about Coke from the can. No restaurant in the world can compare.

I much prefer Pepsi over Coke and can tell the difference. In my part of the UK, the only place that serves Pepsi is KFC, and some pubs (brewery dependent) everywhere else does Coke. If I can't have Pepsi, I drink Sprite, or failing that, Dr.Pepper.

The plastic bottle is the bane of cola drinkers everywhere.

I sometimes go out of my way to shop at these small mom and pop convience stores that stock Mexican Coca-Cola in the tall glass bottles.

Even though I always pay way too much, it is so great to sit down with a real have to open with a bottle opener old style tall glass bottle of Coke on a hot summer's day.
