I quit my job and moved 150 miles away (and decades from civilization) to take care of my mom while she dies.

I quit my job to work for my friend's dad. He's in the reserves and got called up to active duty after 9/11. He runs a home improvement business. It's really just him and his son so any missed time would spell financial disaster.

He always got me work when I was in college and needed a few bucks. So though it was a pay-cut, I quit the job I had at the time and went back to work for him while he was on the base.

Fuck it, friendship is stronger than a paycheck.

I used to date this girl who was an exotic dancer.

SHE decided that she was going to quit her job for me.

She got a job as a waitress.

The other waitresses found out she used to dance at the local club, and were mean to her, cuz they were jealous playa haters.

One day, they were so mean to her she called me up, crying, she did not know what else to do.

I didnt really know what to do, so I told her to stay cool, and I would be up to chill with her.

I got her 2 dozen roses on the way there.

When I got there, I walked right past the hostess, cuz i knew she was mean, she tried to talk to me, but I said, "shut the fuck up you worthless whorebag, I have to interest in your concerns" or something like that... I usually have a tremendous amount of respect for the ladies, but this was no lady.

she let me by.

I found Jen, the girl I was dating, all sad at a booth and I gave her the flowers. I remember how her eyes were so watery from crying, but they changed to all sparkly from being happy. She was such a tough kick ass girl who listened to Pantera that I never had realized how much of a girl she really was.

I walked her out to the car, and I told her she didnt have to take some dumb job to impress me, and that I thought it was cool that she was a stripper...(<thats how we met, hee hee... strippers ARE cool!!!!)

I went back in and told the girls, who were all beside themselves, that I had NEVER better have to come back up, cuz they had only seen my "good" side.

then jen and i left to go home and smoke pot and watch "King of New York", which was our favorite movie.

man, i loved dating that girl, I hate myself so much for being stupid and ruining it... I was the dumb ass in the end I guess, cuz I pushed her away cuz I had my head so far up my ass.... well, thats another story.

i'm selfish and generally don't do really nice things. i mean, i do average nice things. but i certainly wouldn't qualify for sainthood.

one night my crazy roommate tried to kill herself and i talked her into going to the hospital and i stayed there with her for 20 hours. i guess that's kinda nice.

I saved my friends life once. He passed out while hyperventilating. We were talking online and his spelling got really bad followed by silence. I knew that he had mentioned his chest hurting and having trouble breathing (because he was angry) and I got worried. I called his dad (who was a surgeon) and sent him to check. Later I was told that if he'd remained passed out in that position for more than 15 minutes or so he could have died.

It wasn't a big deal, anyone would have done it. (I think) It's just the nicest thing I can think of....

It makes me happy that I can't think of just one thing. smile I'm a pretty nice person, and I love taking care of people.

Don't let that get out, though. I have a reputation to maintain.

Once at my apartment complex I scared off a weird perverted guy who was prowling around and harrassing a couple of young girls as they were at the pool at nine o' clock at night. I just happened to go to the pop machines by the pool at the same time he was closing in on them. I chased him off and escorted them back to their apartment. They were scared as hell and given the guys behavior I think he was getting ready to do something bad...circling them and just saying some really sick shit that creeped even me out.

It's odd that I consider myself to be a nice person, and while I can think of the meanest thing I have ever done straight off the top of my head... the nicest thing I have ever done totally eludes me.

Three of my friends were in a bad car accident less than two minutes after they'd dropped me off. The EMT's sent them to three different hospitals. This made it impossible for anybody to find anything out, so I spent the rest of night and next couple of days relaying news from trauma surgeons and the ICU to my other two friends, families, and another friend who'd been part of the volunteer fire squad that was first to respond.

Actually, this doesn't seem that nice. It seems like something you just do.

Two things come to mind:

I moved home after my parents got divorced and dropped out of school to find a full time job to help my mom keep the house.

This second one was totally inadvertent, but it still makes for a good story. Apparently a friend of mine was getting ready to hang himself in the garage- note written, chair, rope. I happened to call him with some car problem and ask if he can come grab me and take a look. He stepped down, removed the rope, and burned the note. He never told me this until a couple of years later.

okay. So I was sitting at a cafe with some friends having hot cider and carrot cake. A quadrapelegic man came up to me in his wheel chair and through mostly the use of grunts, I deduced he needed me to get a cigarette for him out of his backpack. So I unzipped his bag and found a cigarette and placed it in his mouth, rezipped his bag and turned back to my friends and my carrot cake. But he didn't leave. He made some more noises and gestures and I got that he needed a light, so I found a package of matches in his backpack and tried to light his cigarette. But it was really windy and I couldn't get the cigarette to light while he held it in his mouth. So I took the cigarette out of his mouth so I could light it in my own mouth. But he held the cigarette in his mouth by biting down on the tip of it and salivated all over it. So when I took the cigarette out of his mouth there was a thick string of drool attached to the filter and his mouth. What was I supposed to do? Tell him it was gross and I couldn't help him? Of course not. So I pretended not to see the fucking HIGHWAY of drool waterfalling off this cigarette and I put it my mouth, lit it, put the cigarette back in his mouth and sat back down to the horrified stares of my friends who all told me that I was a far better person than any of them were.

That was probably the nicest thing I've ever done. I guess its not that amazing. But is is fucking disgusting.
