so i bought a pair of $200 bose headphones .. listened to them once.. and somehow managed to melt the wires (i think i laid them on a candle - freakin brilliant person that i am). so now i have to get a new pair.

the reason i post is this: while they sounded better than the in-ear bose headphones i had been using (and a MILLION times better than the crappy set that apple ships out with the ipod) .. they really weren't SPECTACULAR or anything. i don't know what i expected but, for the money.. i wanted something ..else, i guess. i don't have an issue with the cost (i would be willing to pay much more, if they would sound much better) but i don't think i am going to run out and buy the same pair again..

while they sounded good in the store (playing classical - which i enjoy but honestly isn't what i am listening to 99% of the time). when i got them home and played MY music, the bass was so intense that i had to lower the volume significantly in order to not blow out my eardrums.. and the mids were really lacking. anyway, i just wasn't overly impressed.

so - what headphones are you using? or, what do you recommend?
thanks smile

Sennheiser's usually have a flat eq. That sounds like more what you'd be looking for. Sony and Technics make mostly DJ oriented headphones with lots of bass boost.

stupid question: can you use something like this (http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=005327) with your ipod? ie i assume there would be some sort of adapter needed (since the ipod input is so tiny?)

are you really listening to your ipod with $200 headphones? lipstick on a pig, man.

but I agree about sennheiser-- pro-quality gear, and mostly less expensive than bose. I'm quite happy with my sennheiser earbuds.

ha! yeah i don't even own a stereo system anymore (or any cd's, for that matter) because i have become so dependent on having my entire music collection available to me 24/7 anytime - anyplace.

but even with an ipod - the difference ibetween headphones is very significant (even switching from $100 headphones to $200).. myfriend handed me his ipod the the other night to listen to a song - i was shocked that he could stand to listen to music with those shtty apple headphones - it was unbearable.

Assuming an ipod uses an 1/8 jack (I don't have an ipod) you shouldn't need an adapter. The Sennheisers should have a screw off or pull off 1/4 adapter over an 1/8 plug. So it would fit both an ipod or a home unit with the larger sockets.

You will need an adapter to use most 3rd party headsets with an iPhone. I got this one and I'm happy with it.

There is no better way to listen to music than through a russian bodybuilding book.

pfft... nothing overdoes it on the bass like a russian bodybuilding book. what is you want is a swiss triathalon training for women book.

I have a $60 pair of Sennheisser HD 212Pro headphones and they are fantastic. In the past I just used them for my bass amp since I'm in an apartment. But recently I've had them on my PC. Love them!

how about earbuds? i'm stuck with a $40 pair by Sony, which i think is the previous version of the MDR-EX55. i'd like better, but i'm usually strapped for cash, thanks to cost of living up here, and most things better are too hugely packaged or guarded to nick ( tongue ).

i can't stand lugging around huge-ass headphones. i'll easily sacrifice a little quality so that it'll fit in my pocket without too much bulk.

the earbuds I mentioned are sennheiser cx300's. fucking great sound, and the semi-custom fit is fantastic for blocking out outside noise. better sounding music, less hearing damage. by my standards they're kind of expensive, though.

I have the same ones! I love them so much. I use them with my mp3 player and even when the battery has run out, it's still a great muffler for sound on the subway. Oh, and it keeps your ears warm in the winter. tongue
