How many people have decided to permanently remove a piercing in the past few years? It seems like everyone I know with bellybutton, nipple, or facial lip piercings have removed them, just for ease of motion and comfort.
Personally, I removed the 12-gauge captive rings from my ears in the "normal" ear-piercing spot (middle of the earlobe) so I can more easily switch up the "main" earrings I'm wearing (despite the five other gauged piercings i have in my ears). I'm also considering switching out the rest of my 12-gauge piercings for a smaller gauge and a lighter ring. I've had them for over 6 years now, but I'm tired of the aches they cause if I sleep on them wrong.
I took out my peircings when I started working in an office. It's been a year now and I still miss them but to make myself feel better I'm going to get myself some ink.
I had 9 piercings when I was 19 and now, 6 years later, I'm down to 3. I had:
ears
nipples
navel
2nd hole in each ear
tongue
conch
I took the nipples and 2nd ear piercings out only a few months after getting them because I sucked at taking care of them.
I took the tongue out 3 years ago because it was chipping my teeth.
I took my conch out 2 years ago because it still hadn't healed after having it for 4 years.
I tried to take my navel ring out last year but my bellybuttom looks so gross with the big gaping purplish hole and no ring that I put it back in after a few months.
4 ears, 2 tongue, 1 lingual frenulum, 1 lip, 1 septum. i had to take them all out for the military. my ears (which were up to high gauges) are still open, as is my septum. everything else has closed and healed over. the only piercing i really miss is my septum piercing, which i keep telling myself i'll find jewelry for again. the lingual frenulum was a pain in the ass - i don't miss that one.
I think I topped out at 18 holes.
I had 10g nipples, 6g tongue, 6g hood, 2 tragus, 2 conche, belly button, 2 nostril, labret, various ear piercings, and 7/8" gauge ears.
I've since removed all but my 2 tragus, belly button, 2 nostrils. I've had plastic reconstructive surgery on my lobes to have the holes "removed" and I now wear normal earrings in what used to be my "second hole."
I took my conch out 2 years ago because it still hadn't healed after having it for 4 years.
Holy crap! I admire your persistence.
Well, I knew I was a slow healer and that conchs are a hard heal, so I kept with it for a while. But when I realized I couldn't sleep on my left side after 4 years I gave up.
I took out the 3 piercings in my lip, just cos I got bored of them, and well I look better without. I still have holes though and it would be so easy to re pierce
I love all my other ones, eventuaklly my tongue stud will come out but thats cos I'm splitting it
I took out my nipple piercings a few years ago and my belly button before that. I leave my lip ring out for days at a time mainly for comfort reasons but I tend to put it back in when I go out anywhere.
I removed all of my piercings for surgery. Clitoral hood, nipples, and tongue grew over in two days. I repierced the nipples, though.
I was kind of relieved to get rid of the tongue barbell. Sometimes it would irritate the roof of my mouth, which probably was an indication of some damage.
I took out some surface piercings that were doing just fine and didn't reject or get infected, because I was just tired of being concious of them, always avoiding clothing getting caught on them, and trying to shave around them.
I used to think that I loved piercings, but now the thought of getting any more than I already have seems like it would be such a hassle afterwards.
I had my nipples pierced but took them out after a year. That was the day after I shot my first set and the holes still haven't fully closed. It is obnoxious.
I had 000 ear gauges (which are now closed to almost normal piercing size), vertical labret (twice), tragus, ear cartilage...now i have nothing. i kind of miss my gauges sometimes

I took out my industrial for the same reason. Not being able to sleep on one side for the sake of an earing is such silly.
I think the most piercings I ever had was 13 or 14. I'm now down to a few "normal" earlobe piercings and my navel ring. I've had the navel ring in for about 7 years now, and my stomach looks really weird without it (and the hole it leaves is ugly), so I've never let that one go.
Even after a couple of years, I still have holes in my clitoral hood and septum, so I could wear jewelry there if I wanted to. The hood ring was obnoxious and always got caught on my boxers (if I wore underwear) or the seams of my jeans (if I didn't wear underwear). The septum ring was likewise annoying because boogers kept sticking to it; I also had to take it out during work hours, and dealing with a size 8 captive bead ring required the use of pliers and was SUCH a pain in the ass.
I let my gauged ear piercings heal after my eyelets just fell out and fucking disappeared. It was expensive jewelry and I elected not to replace it, so they've shrunken back to a tiny size. My nipple rings never really healed right even after two attempts, and my double tongue rings sometimes hurt the inside of my mouth. I had to let my eyebrow ring and lip ring go after getting a new job. The jewelry in my Christina piercing was outright rejected.
If I ever get anything pierced again, it will be a third attempt to do my nipples. They looked and felt AWESOME.
