What it is:

The National Association of Letter Carriers (i.e. your friendly post person), in conjunction with the United States Postal Service, will be collecting non-perishable food items like canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal, and rice on Saturday May 10th to help families in need in your community.

What you do:

You can help by placing your food donation at you mailbox on May 10th before your letter carrier arrives. It will be taken to the Post Office and then delivered to local food banks or pantries. Please do not include items that have expired or those in glass containers.

I realize this is a difficult time for a lot of us, and even more so for those who don't have a lot of money. But I know we all have a few of those items that have been sitting around in the pantry for a while and don't plan on using any time soon. Please donate them to the more needy. I'm sure you'll do fine without them. I know personally I have a box full of non-perishables that I plan on donating in addition to some of my favorite stuff (they don't just want the stuff nobody wants wink).

NOTE: this applies to our US members only. I'd hate to see the UK members (or any non-US members) placing food out by their mailboxes in vain.

Even if you can't donate hope for a nice day. I'd hate to see all these goodies get rained on and soaked through.

Visit Help Stamp Out Hunger.com for more information or to notify other non-SGers via email.

I once donated a can of grapes that I received as a gag gift. Of course...I donated a while CRAPload of real food too....but I can't help but think...somewhere...there is a needy person who thinks I'm kind of a dick because they got canned grapes. I take comfort in that.

I've never even heard of canned grapes. surreal

I love that the USPS does this yearly. Our food pantries here are running ridiculously low. I want to organize this here.
