Hi Guys,

I'm applying for a job in a company based in Mountain View and I was wondering if anyone could give me some information of what I'd be letting myself into?

What's it like to live in that area? What's the nightlife like? You know, all that good stuff.

Any info at all would be appreciated.

Do you mean Mountain View CALIFORNIA?

The cost of living may be higher. But you will probably get paid well enough.

Sorry I should have said that. Yeah. Mountain View California.

Speaking of Cost of living. How much would a 500 ml bottle of coke cost (or as close to 500 ml as things get to in this crazy country)?

Interesting way to measure the cost of living. Mountain View is nice enough, but the traffic in the Bay Area is unimaginably awful and the public transport system is infantile unless you live and work in SF. Of course the housing prices are murder. I left a nice job in the Bay Area 24 years ago and would not return under any conceivable circumstance. Please don't change your mind and move to Colorado, it may get crowded wink
Unless you want to surrender a good deal of your life to commuting, get a place close to work.

The traffic sucks, the air is dirty, the nightlife is dull, the people are silicon valley style. If it pays well do it.
I did for a while. If the company happens to be that one I worked for, breakfast, lunch and dinner are all very good.

I worked in a cube farm in Mountain View (Intuit) when I moved here 10 or so years ago. I commuted from SF because I decided I'd rather commute to work than my social life (i.e.; better to drive hungover than drunk).

The commute took me about 1 hour 15 minutes but that was at the height of the dotcom boom. It's not even half as bad as it was back then... still bad. I ended up eating a lot of fast food and chain restaurant food and getting fat.

I rarely hung around there nights or weekends.

PS I have never paid for food or drink in Mountain View. I'm unable to answer your question about that. Sorry.

The closest size to 500ml is the 20 oz. bottle, common in convenience stores and vending machines. They run about $1.50 or so.

Mountain View is pretty, safe, expensive, shitty nightlife, but close to San Francisco and San Jose. Whether or not you like the clubs/ bars/ etc in San Jose and Mountain View depends on what kind of things you are into.

Mountain View is exactly like every other city in Silicon Valley except for the fact that the area's major concert amphitheater is there.

Those friends of mine that do live there like it for the ease of the commute, but hate it for the poor male-female ratio. San Jose nightlife isn't bad. Mountain View sucks.

However, in comparison to Salt Lake City, Mountain View may be a little slice of heaven to you. It would be to me.
