I've mastered the art of having someone else's voice narrate whatever Im reading at the time. My friends tell me that Im fucking crazy but i think that its perfectly normal.

So my question is when you do hear someone narrate your readings or if you could have someone read to you your favorite books, who would it be?

Mine is Morgan Freeman ARRR!!!

I think I hear myself when I read. I'm rather fond of Cate Blanchett's voice, so I'd pick her to narrate if I could. Morgan Freeman would be good, too.

I find that I hear a different voice for each character and narrator for each book. There's no one voice that I hear all the time, or would want to hear for every book I read.

I don't really hear a voice when I read. I read very quickly, so that could be the reason why, as I suspect it would take more brain involvement, and hence be slower, if my brain formulated a voice to read. Does that even make sense?

I do find that, if I create character voices in my head, I read slower and remember the book better afterwards, so perhaps I should work on that.

Although my Brain Training game on my DS rewards me for reading quickly!!

That makes perfect sense. I read incredibly slowly, but I do remember almost everything that I do read.

It depends on the book. I occasionally read some rather dry, academic material and that usually involves me narrating. For other cases, there could be one or more other voices involved. It's one of the annoyances of the cinefication of a book I have read. The voices seldom sound like the ones I have conjured.

+1 on that, I usually hate the film version of a book as nothing looks the way or sounds the way it does in my head.

It would depend on the book, of course, but I wouldn't complain if Ian McKellan narrated most books I read.

I read according to the mood of the character.
I've mastered some pretty awesome accents in my head, too. But I'm not so great at repeating it aloud.

Like Neyrissa, I don't hear a voice at all. I've never thought that people might read that way. How strange.

Also, when I read I can't hear anything at all usually. If someone tries to talk to me, I can't hear them speak. More accurately, I don't listen to them speak, though I'm sure my ears are working perfectly and I can actually hear them.

So I've basically come to the conclusion that this is crazy, but its TRUE! Cate Blanchett's voice sounds like it would be good but i got a new one that everyone should try out...

Flava Flav ( Just the thought of him actually picking up a book and being able to read it is funny to me) yeaaaahhhhhh boiiii

I always 'hear' a voice when I read, but it isn't usually the voice of a real person. Usually, it's kind of a younger, quieter version of myself. But yeah, when I'm reading fiction I get a little more creative with the voices.

I rarely pay attention to it because the voice in my head tends to comment on the book rather than read it to me. Like the annoying person at the theater going "Oh that's so cool... No don't go in there!" and such. Plus the voice changes every time.

If you haven't seen 10 Items or Less, you need to. Your post totally reminded me of the first scene.

...Nope, just myself. That would be fun, but like Neyrissa, I tend to zip through pretty quickly, so it probably wouldn't happen even if I tried.

I don't hear anyone... if I did hear a voice Brian Blessed would be fun, although not perhaps all that appropriate for most books.

Upon further consideration, I have decided that when I read either non-fiction or narration, it will be the voice of Patrick Stewart in my head.

Make it so!

This is a great thread. smile

I don't consistently hear voices when I read, but if I do, it's usually mine, affecting a ridiculous accent.
