The Amish don't use uneccessary technology, or technology that is ccnsidered a luxury. I would imagine this is used for strictly business concerns, and no one is going around surfing the web with it.

I keep seeing this woman in my neighborhood who drives this tiny little aqua car. The first time I saw her I thought, "Oh, how cute. She's in a play about Pilgrims." Nope. She always wears that bonnet. AND DRIVES A CAR. As the world turns, these are the days of our lives...

There are many Mennonite sects that dress in a particular way but do not shun technology as much as the most ardent Amish sects do. The belief system is really not a monolith and is fractured sometimes along community lines.

Not really, have you seen Devil's Playground?

If not watch it, you'd be amazed at how modern the Amish actually are, and it's a great documentary.

Apple Schnitz Pie Submitted By: The Amish Cook
Schnitz is the local Pennsylvania German word for a piece of fruit or vegetable that has been cut into quarters. Usually the term refers to dried pieces of apple. Apple schnitz form the basis of many Pennsylvania German folk dishes such as Schnitzkuchen (apple cake) and Schnitz un Gnepp (stewed apples, ham and dumplings). Pies made from apple schnitz were usually made without an upper crust. Soak 4 cups of schnitz overnight.

2 tbsp. flour
2/3 cups brown sugar
4 cups schnitz
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Mix together and sprinkle over apple mixture:

1 cup flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tsp. butter
4 tbsp. cream
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes and then at 300 degrees for 30 minutes.
