Well I guess Tyler Durden... is who. I actually don't mean this in a bad way... he deserves his fame from penning Fight Club... I liked Lullaby and Choke-- he is a talented writer, but I am bored by him now... Diary just seemed to be so contrived and all he did was write the same book he always writes, though the names and places may have been changed. I might feel differently if Diary was the only Palaniuk book I've read. So basically kids: buy any C.P. you want, but after you go through all 6 novels you'll be over him too. Just don't read Diary 1st. And Chuck, I'll probably read your next diatribe... so make it shine and don't cling to the same-old money making gimicks.

thank God someone finaly said it. All I read on the boards is Chuck P this, Chuck P that. It's good stuff but come on...there is more out there. I have noticed the people who rave shamelessly about Chuck tend to have little other than his books listed (along with Lolita) in their favorites and no music over 2 years old in there "FAVORITE BANDS" list.

I can't stand Chuch Palaniuk. No offense, or anything, I just don't see what all the whoop-dee-doo is about. Then again, the last book I read for my own enjoyment was "Reporting Vietnam."

Everyone's entitled to a stinker. Bukowski had Pulp.

I'm relatively new to reading Chuck. I read Choke, and I'm 3/4 through Lullabye now. I'm careful with new authorsthat I like though. I'll probably take a break after this one, so as not to gorge myself. I've got a few other books to read anyway.

I have a morbid sense of humor. I just don't think he's as great a writer as everyone makes him out to be. But that's my opnion, and I'm a nerd. What about his style do you people dig?

Agreed, he writes a damn good book.. but that's just it, *A* damn good book, over, and over...

I haven't read Diary yet. I was hoping it would be an exception. I mean, how long can he keep this up? Isn't *he* bored yet?

That said, I'm sure I'll continue to read every book he puts out.. he's a talented author, he just seems to be in some kind of rut.

I too am a nerd dont worry smile
I guess for me its just the structure he writes in.
The wording.
For example:

Excerpt from Choke

The point was, in a world where everybody had to look so pretty all the time, this
guy wasn't. The monkey wasn't. What they we're doing wasn't.

The point was, it's not the sex part of pornography that hooked the stupid little boy. It was the confidence. The courage. The complete lack of shame. The comfort
and genuine honesty. The up-front-ness of being able to just stand there and tell the world: Yeah, this is how i chose to spend a free afternoon. Posing here with a monkey putting chestnuts up my ass.

And i really don't care how i look. Or what you think.
So deal with it.
He was assaulting the world by assaulting himself.

And even if the guy wasn't loving every moment, the ability to smile, to fake your way through this, that would be even more admirable.

The same way every porno movie implies a score of people standing just off camera, knitting, eating sandwiches, looking at there wristwatches, while other people do naked sex only a few feet away...

To the stupid little boy, that was enlightenment. To be that comfortable and confident in the world, that would be Nirvana.

"Freedom" isn't the right word, but it's the first one that comes to mind.

That's the kind of pride and self-assurance the little boy wanted to have. Someday.

ok im done... sorry if i typed to much tongue

who else can write about a guy getting chestnuts stuck up his ass by a monkey and word it that well.

thats just me though

I'm afraid to say that he doesn't even interest me enough to hire from the library, which is rare. I normally read any novel a film is based on, but for some reason, he just doesn't get my interest. I'd previously though that he must be okay to have such a following, but what I've read here about his book(s) being so formulaic has kinda changed that opinion, and I probably won't bother reading any of them nowblackeyed

On the one hand, he does have a rather forumlaic writing style. On the other hand, Formulaic or not, I love it.

I have read all the books. I get them from the library because I would never buy one of his books. Not one has been good. OK one. It's like he is the Radiohead of authors, except I like Radiohead, but I can understand why somebody wouldn't.
