I know there was another thread, but the search wouldn't find it and I'm lazy...

The basic jist for those that don't know, is a few years ago this guy turned up online claiming to be a time traveller. Some people were scheptical, but his descriptions of a 2nd American Civil War (or the beginnings of) are certainly starting to appear possible, and something else has just happened that he hinted at.
China's manned space mission...
I'm starting to think that maybe this guy was the real article...
I hope the powers that be are taking note here, because I rather like society as it is and could really do without being nuked into oblivion...

well look at it this way...if he were able to come back that means that mankind had that ability before everyone was nuked into oblivion. so we could just keep goin back and changin things until we got it right and nobody died.

Sadly not, according to him time travel was a post WW III thing. The website put up about him is interesting reading (even if it was all bullshit) I'm starting to think it wasn't.

Good thing that the post- WW III people can simply go back to pre WW III and give them the technology. No bullshit on the internet... no way.

If people could time travel back in time and change things we wouldnt know about it as it would already be what we beleived to be unaltered history. It was kinda predictable that China would have a manned space mission it's just surprising that it's taken them so long.

I read this whole thing a few weeks ago from a link on someone's journal. Spent a whole damn day, just reading all this stuff.
Might be bollocks, might not. I think time will tell on this one, personally.
As for being able to come back and change things, the problem is that if you change something in the past, you no longer have any reason in the future to go back and change it, so you don't go back. and it happens. Classic paradox.
The worrying thing is, this means that the existance of time travel causes the whole of the future to be set, and unchangeable and thats quite .....oh dear, i've gone all cross eyed. surreal

Thing is though, for those not in the know, his whole mission (assuming it was genuine) wasn't to change history at all, but to aquire a specific type of computer (5110) that could debug computer code (unix) because none existed in his time. Other people have pointed out other things he said as occuring that have since happened, and he casually used the term Weapons of Mass Destruction before anyone else had heard of it. Another member (I forget who) said that the physics he was using were indeed sound, and that some of the terms used, again, have only just come into recent use.
When I first read the site, I was scheptical, but open-minded, and what he said about the causes of a 2nd Civil War would certainly seem to be occuring with Dubbya's 'administration' and now this thing about the Chinese space program, well, maybe it was predictable, but I don't know...
If nothing else, the site about him certainly passes a few hoursbiggrin
