What is your favorite blue flower?

Mine is the Centaurea cyanus, aka the Cornflower!

Echium fascinates me...

especially pininana. It's kind of Land of the Lost looking. The flowers are usually blue.

The Grand Bleu Bluebeard (Caryopteris x clandonenis 'Grand Bleu') is kinda nifty.

...and although it's not a pure blue, the Periwinkle (Vinca minor) is also nice.

wow. that just brought back a flood of childhood memories. My parents have a cabin in Maine, and lupine grows wild in abundance up there. I have fond memories of a girl that i used to spend time with in the summer when i would go up there. I am getting all weepy, but i have to agree with you, fields of lupine are beautiful.

There are these gorgeous, tropical looking plants that grow in a lot of people's yards here that have these huge, yellow, trumpet shaped flowers that hang down. So pretty. I have no idea what they are called though.

Also love hibiscus.

I believe you are thinking about the Crossvine / Yellow Elder, aka Bignonia capreolata.

But those aren't blue flowers. Although they are related to the Borage flower, from the same family Boraginaceae. winkzoom image

does this look something like it?

here's a picture for size reference:

my first thought was some brugmansia/angel's trumpet.. or possibly a yellow type of datura.

narghile,

any particular reason you're only interested in blue flowers?

blush
Yes. I have created a sky garden out of my front yard. I deweeded it with Burnout II (active ingred. 4.000% solution of clove oil) and then put lapis blue pots all over it, with lobelia, bluebells, cornflowers, poppies, etc. in the pots. I've planted morning glories on the fences.

A sky garden, in my definition, is a garden of the color blue in such massive amounts that it appears to capture the sky for but a small time during the day, so that we terrabound creatures may walk among the clouds.

I love my Rainbow Blue hibiscus. This is a picture of it when we first got it a few months ago... it's since grown very quickly and has probably 10-15 large blossoms at a time, at all times. The color quality is poor in this picture -- they're much more blue than the purple they look (for reference, the wall behind them is yellow).

Add fertilizer containing aluminum sulfate to soil to improve the blue color of your plants. It makes the blooms really brilliant.

That is really beautiful. Do you think it would fare well in the Southeast US?

Morning Glory - Heavenly Blue.

This blue flower is perfect for climbing up a fence, or for combating the unsightliness of thorny vines.
