Comedian Lewis Black is often billed as "America's Foremost Commentator on Everything", a good description, but perhaps more specifically should be worded "America's Foremost Commentator on Stupidity" – the root evil behind almost every subject he touches onstage. Nothing is safe: Republicans, Democrats, the Weather Channel, all are skewered mercilessly with Black's trademark exasperated, verge-of-a-heart-attack brilliance.

Fucking great interview- he and Dave Atell are two of my favorite "humorists" today, not that you'd ever see quotes from them on a placemat in a restaurant.

What was interesting to me is that, on the phone at least, he's very soft-spoken, calm, and nice. I don't think a lot of people understand that comedians put on a persona just like an actor playing a part. The Lewis Black on stage is a character.

Heehee. Seriously, though! I was so nervous because I had a vision of having to hold the phone away from my ear when I was talking to him.

He also said he checked out the site the night before and was like "Holy fuck! Where do I sign up?" We gave him a membership, so who knows? He could be reading this now. smile

Great interview with LB; thanks for not being one of those interviewers who steers comics into doing their schtick instead of letting them shine on their own. I saw LB perform here in LA at H.O.B. not so long ago, and he's absolutely amazing.

Oh, no kidding. I hate watching interviews with Robin Williams, Dennis Miller, and other well-known comics because it's obvious the interviewer is leading them through a schtick. I'd much rather hear about their life, their views on things, little stories... stuff like that. If I wasn't familiar with their act, I wouldn't be watching/listening to/reading the interview. wink

Keith always does an excellent job. It's clear that he allows them to control the interview by expanding on things they've brought up or continuing a tangent. You never see him go, "Oh? You have a dog? That's cool. So what are your views on global warming?" He asks about the dog because he knows that we're reading that thinking, "Awww... I wonder what kind of dog it is and what he/she named it...". biggrin

God I need coffee.

Ah.....this is so refreshing, it seems like everyone interviewed on SG recently has been in my memory. Everyone that's been interviewed this week is like, a GOD to me, and Lewis Black is just the icing on the cake. Lewis Black is one of the greatest comedians of all time.

Being a die-hard republican I've never been a huge fan of his politics, but I'll go see him tell jokes any day.

I'd really like to thank keith for this great interview and just ask him one question: When's Henry Rollins sceduled?
