okay, so there's a starbucks on ave. B, across the street from the frat bar, everybody loves the fucking white stripes and strokes instead of real music, cbgb's is on the verge of being bought by NYU, along with everything else in the city, there's a W hotel being built on rivington st., you can't smoke in bars, bloomberg wants to close bars at 2 a.m., pot smoking arrests are up something like 3000% in the past 10 years, and you can hardly even get offered fake drugs in washington square park anymore.

Is NYC dead?

Everything is over.

We live in the age of over.

Nothing is new. It's all over.

The only new things are things that are done over.

If you call no do-overs, the universe explodes.

So, yes, New York is over. It's been over formuch longer than you realize.

Which "frat bar" are you talking about? I just moved from between B & C a few months ago and there was no Starbucks when I lived there.

If they close the bars at 2 a.m. everyone may as well give up and move to LA.

I think New York has been over about 9 years ago when the Guiliani Regime started cleaning Times Square due to all the interested corporate money. Bloomberg is even worse. I live in Queens and they are proposing a seven dollar toll on the east side bridges. SEVEN DOLLARS. People are paying like eight dollars for a pack of cigarettes, twenty for a lap dance, two dollars for a ride on the subway. It's insane I noticed lots of people stay close to home now.
These luxury hotels and apartment building suck ass to. they are popping up everywhere and all it's doing is forcing more people into Queens and Brooklyn which is forcing my rent up. New York might not necessarily be dead but it's lossing alot of it's personality.

Yes, New York is over. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

I'm looking forward to living in an unhip NYC. A friend of mine who's been living in NYC since the 50's said the best time he can recall to have been living in NYC was the summer of 1967. Why? Because the "Summer of Love" was making SF the hippest city in North America, so every single annoying hipster and the scumbags that made a living exploiting annoying hipsters packed up and moved west.

Wake me up when they start closing museums, parks, restaurants and concert venues, okay?

New York has been over for a decade. It was colonized by suburbanites who keep asking if New York is over.

Keep dreaming! The curse of the bambino will have it's way!!! MUAHAHAHAAAA!

Sometimes I like to pretend that I care about sports. It makes it more fun when everyone around me is engulfed by the nonsense...err...I mean....the great American past time!! Yeah.

when i was younger, I used to visit NYC all the time. It was the best place on earth. Now, after living there and moving on, there was nothing there that really stuck out as GREAT while living there.(except the studio I worked at)

Yeah, Cubs v. Sox in the World Series -- one of them has to win that way, right?

If you aren't too much of a pussy, truck on up to Spanish Harlem and take a gander at the nice new condos they're building up there. If you're easily frightened by a Starbucks, then this ought to make your fucking mind blow out the back of your ass in sheer terror...if the mexicans don't get you first, frightened white boy.

Have faith. For 80-odd years, we've kept the faith. It's just Game 6 (and as I type this, we're up 7 to 6 in the bottom of the 8th). Win this one & Game 7--World Series bound! biggrin *keeping the faith* biggrin

Is New York over? Hmm. That's a tough one. I do a lot of traveling and I always come back home to NYC. Having said that. I'm moving to Philadelphia next year. NYC is just too damn expensive, and getting more so everyday.

It's not over, it's just becoming a place to visit.
