Question about prison tattoos

I know people get all kinds of tattoos (like traditional prison/gang ones for no reason) for whatever their own reasons but as far as I always knew, the teardrop is representative of a killing. Am I correct on that traditional one?

And if I am, this is what had me just scratching my head:

Ehhhh. Spiderwebs are supposed to mean that you've done time but I would bet that fewer than 1/10 people with spiderweb tattoos got them for that reason.
