The ultimate movie theater experience is making it's way to America. For only $35 you get to watch that movie you've been dying to see on the best technology and most comfortable seating in almost complete privacy. Yay!

Village Roadshow Gold Class Cinemas are coming to the U.S. The company will expand their luxury, premium venues to around 50 locations in the States over the next five years.

The cinemas offer personalized levels of service; smaller more private and intimate cinemas; customer designed recliner seating with footrests, and state of the art projection and sound systems. They'll have digital 2-D and 3-D capability, as well as a lounge area and bar where cocktails and appetizers will be served. And if that's not enough, a concierge service and valet parking are available.

That's just awesome. It has a bar. Lets get drunk and watch movies with rich people. Wait...no. This is a $70 date, not counting the dinner before hand and the $20 popcorn and soda for the movie. Maybe they'll have wine and cheese instead. Cause you know, there's nothing wrong with the economy. This is just what we needed.

For those interested in where they will start.

The first of the posh new venues will open up in the burbs of Chicago and Seattle in October. The company then plans to build more near Dallas-Fort Worth and Scottsdale, Arizona. Future expansion is expected in California, Florida, Nevada, Pennsylvania and New York. The complexes will be located in high-end retail centers.

I am not a writer, I just had to share this. My Geek Source.

I prefer Brew-n-View where it's a $5 cover charge playing a double feature of Grease and Fast Times at Ridgemont High along with $2 beers.

Do they have someone come by and jam cell phones up the people's asses for texting/talking during the movie?

The Brew-n-View is a Chicago institution. That's how movies should be watched.

The Moolah, Chase Park, Galleria and Tivoli in St. Louis all have open bars with microbrews and wine available, and movies are the usual price. I hope this new institution tanks.

There is a theater here that has a bar upstairs, and a restaurant. And you can get a tray of food to take in the theater, such as chicken tenders, boneless chicken wings, shrimp and french fries on the first floor, in the same area you get the popcorn and drinks.

You can get special leather seats for select movies, but they aren't 35 bucks. For 35 bucks, that should include at least one alcoholic drink and appetizer. And I am betting they don't bring drinks to you while you are in the theater, watching the movie.

I think someone should make and "On Demand" theater that you can rent out a theater and select from a few hundred classic movies. Then you split the price with everyone in your party.

That should go over well in an economic slump.

What ever happened to dollar movies, anyhow? Do those second-run theatres still exist somewhere?

There are at least two dollar theaters in my area. Last time I checked, then one charged $1.00 for weekday showings, and $1.50 for weekends (including Friday night.) The other one is newer, so I haven't checked them out yet.

i don't think people who are interested in a $100+ movie going experience are going to give a shit one way or another about some free wings.

you can hire a screening room anytime you want, watch whatever you want and invite whoever you want.

Yeah, we've got one here too. And Cleveland Cinemas does $5 Mondays with a free small popcorn. But I'll bet it's a lot less common in LA and NY.

We have one close by in NJ that is $4 a show. They are about a month behind the big theaters which actually isn't too bad, plus they do a lot of indie flicks as well.

So for $35 I can get the "experience" of watching a movie at home? (ie dinner, alcoholic drinks)

It's been a dream of mine, if I ever become rich, to build a drive-in somewhere in the desert. Star Wars, Godzilla, really bad '80s slasher flicks, the works.
