Underage Friends...

How do folks feel about having friends that fall squarely into the catagory of "jailbait"?
I met a girl the other day and we got chatting about tattoos, music and stuff in general. This wasn't a hook up situation, as she said she had a bf, but wanted to chat about my tattoos. After a while, she said she was only 15! She's a nice person to chat with, and today I've been working on a tattoo design for her, but part of me's thinking, is it really cool to chat with a girl this young as a friend or have I turned into a dirty old man?

I think it could be ok to be friends with a young person like that. For legal reasons alone, though, you probably would want to make sure to hang out with her in public, crowded areas.

It doesn't happen often, but I have met the sixteen-year-old or two that I just don't want to smack for being the most annoying thing on the planet.

I was hitting on this girl at work once, she started it actually, I thought she was at least 21, maybe even a little older. I saw here at a 21+ show one night for christ's sake. Yup, she was 17. Fortunately it never got to the point where anything happened.

It's only okay if you have an in. Like say, a good looking younger brother who happens to bring in lots of tail. Am I joking? Only the law can say for sure.

my best friend is turning 17 next month. she's more mature than i am, i think.

If your just friends then I don't see what the problem is.

Um. Is there a taboo I don't know about regarding being friends with a child or adolescent? 'Cause this thread seems a little silly to me.

Not a taboo but just the fear the underaged person accuses the adult of improprieties - real or not - because the adult slights them for a reason, or won't buy them booze, etc.

Actually, you can even get in big trouble if you offer them a cigarette. You must be 18 or over to purchase tobacco.

That being said, the age of sexual consent in Canada is 14 as long as the other member is not in position of authority i.e. parent, teacher, coach, etc.

I don't see a problem with having friends older or younger than yourself, my best friend is also 34 and I'm 25 (well will be in 48 hours), but all of us, (including yourself and your friend) are legally adult in any country, which is quite different (in my eyes) to being friends with a girl that is barely 15.

But you're only 3 years older than your friend, nowhere near the age gap I'm refering to.

I don't know, maybe it's just my own issues with age or more specifically under age. I don't think that being friends with this girl makes me a pervert. We're just friends, and I enjoy her conversation. That said, I don't think I'd feel comfortable if other friends (or my folks) saw me hanging out with her, as I wouldn't want them to get the wrong idea about things.

Maybe it's just me after all. *shrugs*
