Yeah, I said it. I hate you guys.

But it's not for why you think. It's not about "Freedom of clean air act". It's not about "Secondhand child abuse". It's not because you smell bad.

It's about the culture of litter you all pick up when you're 13, or whenever you started. How come you gotta throw your butts on the ground? Hippie-smokers, who lecture me about eating meat, organic food, etc, feel no compunction at dropping a chunk of foam on the ground that will last for 3 years. It's trash.

What gives? Anyone got a defense?

Yes, all smokers litter.
And all non-smokers are self righteous dickholes.

A defense? If there is a proper place to put my cigarette, I'll put it there. But If I have to go outside a building to smoke, and there's no ashtray, I generally make sure the cigarette is completely out and throw it in a garbage can. If you want to get whine about something, how about the fact that the law requires people to go outside of public buildings to smoke, but doesn't require ashtrays.

Don't get all pissy just because smokers are so much cooler than everyone else.

Every internet smoker is totally considerate and never flicks their cigarette in the street or stubs it out on the sidewalk.

Huh. Well, you see, I prefer to field strip. I will take off all of the burning tobacco and put the left over filter into my pocket/purse/coat until I can throw them out...which usually means they go through the washing machine.

Now my question...is throwing them in a proper waste receptacle any better than throwing them on the ground? What's the difference between degrading on my sidewalk and degrading in the landfills?

Yet people still mock me for dumping my half-eaten dinner on the street!

I do that when I'm working. The lint trap in my dryer smokes about as much as I do.

Crap. I worded that wrong. What I meant to say is do they degrade faster in a landfill? Like is there a difference in the time it takes? Or was this solely about litter? Because I know I'd be pissed if I had to pick up litter all day...hence the field stripping and throwing out later that I do.

This was solely about litter, and attitudes toward litter. I mean, my sister, whom I love dearly, does this. I don't understand why, when there's a trash right there, it's cool to drop them. Is it just because they smell in your trash?

I'd also argue that while in many cases they may take as long in a landfill as in your lawn, some municipalities actually DO have effective trash disposal methods, and trashing butts would be more environmentally friendly than dropping them. And then I'll admit that's a bit weak.

I hate cigarette buts on the street.

But I love 'em on the beach. They make the sand seem softer. That, and they give a nice balance of texture to go with the tampon applicators.

There is an empty can sitting outside the back steps where I work. That's where the smokers go. There are cigarette butts EVERYWHERE. Hundreds of them. The can is pristine. It's really quite unpleasant.

What the hell kind of cheap tires did you buy that traveling over a cigarette butt for a half second could actually start burning the tire?

Just don't invite them back... the bright ones will catch on (or at least ask the right questions), and the dumb ones won't.
