Ellen Paige to star in Whip It, Drew Barrymore to direct.

If you're into Ellen Paige (starred in Juno), Drew Barrymore (duh) and/or roller derby (it saved my soul), look out for "Whip It."

Shauna Cross has adapted the screenplay from her novel "Derby Girl." Cross is better known as Maggie Mayhem of the L.A. Derby Dolls.

The the basic story is about a teenaged girl in rural Texas who rebels against her beauty pageant obsessed parents, and lies about her age to join a roller derby league in Austin.

My money says that it'll be a banked track league (the Derby Dolls are) and that they'll either make something up from scratch or be vague about the name rather than specifically call them the Lonestar Rollergirls/TXRD. It's to be filmed on location in Austin, though I suppose the derby action might just as easily be done in L.A. at the Dollhouse with the L.A.D.D. doing stunt work.

Excellent. I still haven't seen Juno but I saw Ellen Paige in Hard Candy and she was amazing.
