I can see the emails now, "Why the hell did you ask Dan Savage about Queer Eye for the Straight Guy?" The best answer is, I knew he would say something funny, thoughtful and dirty. If Savage is ever forced to change the name of his column, Savage Love, he should think about using, funny, thoughtful and dirty with a capital D.
After growing up in Chicago, Savage studied theater and history. But like many smart people he doesn't use that knowledge for anything but making fun of historians and actors.
I love Dan Savage.
Sometimes it makes me laugh, sometimes it makes me worried about my society, and sometimes it's just so distrubing I hate myself for reading it, but all the same I love his column and am glad you did this interview.
Here here to frankness, sarcasm, and wit.
Dan Savage is amazing. He used to have a column in my local paper but a crusty British company threatened to withdraw their advertising if it continued to run. Sadly, they terminated the inclusion of his column. However, I will never forget the time he did a show at Lucky where he finished with a comment about how good looking the coat check boy (my brother) was and then sent a book autographed to him as a thank you.
This interview just shows his wonderful humor and intelligence.
Hooray! I love Dan Savage and this interview was great. I can thank Dan (and his readers of course) for coming up with my favorite sex term...that is, PEGGING (also known as bend over boyfriend!)
And any Dan fan out there should buy Skipping Towards Gomorrah, I've read it 3 times and it still makes me laugh.
I love Dan Savage the most. He wrote a really awesome introduction for Ariel Gore's book, Breeder. It makes me love him so much more that he has a kid.
He also did an interview on This American Life and it was great.
Awsome writer! Awsome story! I laughed I cried...oh wait I was just informed that if I cry I'm going to be listed as gay....DAMN!! Damn those heterosexual male camps!!
I wish there was a way I could get some of his articles where I live. Anyone have any ideas please let me know.
Thanks.
I remember seeing an excerpt from his column on the front page of the SF Guardian, in which he encouraged a guy to break up with his girlfriend who had gotten fat. I didn't read the actual question. Can anyone tell me what it said?
I invited him to a country music concert with my girlfriend once, he turned it down.. citing that he was "too gay and mostly loved musicals." Perfect response.
