In the 1953 movie The Wild One, Marlon Brando stars as Johnny, leader of the Black Rebels Motorcycle Club. In what has become one of Brando's most famous scenes, a young woman asks Johnny, "What are you rebelling against?" To which he replies, with impeccable cool, "Whaddaya got?"
To take the name of your band from that movie requires nerve, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club live up to it. Inevitably black-clad and stylishly nonchalant, BRMC look the very image of rock'n'roll cool, and their music...
oh yay!!! i was just listening to their single: in like the rose on the comp cd that peter sent me with the NME magazine. i'm really really liking that song and their sound A LOT! and i can't wait to hear more of the album.
I like Take Them On, On Your Own a lot. It's interesting that Robert Turner is the son of Michael Been. I saw the Call several times in the late '80s -- a really good band, good sound, some great songs.
I been in a cave
For forty days
Only a spark
To light my way
I wanna give out
I wanna give in
This is our crime
This is our sin
Great article! BRMC Rocks!
I went to see them in DC and Boston. I can't quite put my finger on what it is about BRMC, but their songs move my soul. Its hard to talk about it with out sounding sappy or silly. I guess I love the lyrics and the passion that comes through in thier sound. I got to meet Peter, Robert and Nick and they were all nice and polite. They signed my cd and stuff. I talked to Peter the most and he was telling me about how they are loosing money on this tour. I could not advise or really understand because I'm not really sure how the music industry works. So I just told him how much I loved their music...typical fan banter, but I hope they believe me. Sometimes I wish I was not a girl so guys would talk to me without thinking I'm hitting on them or have them hitting on me. Warlock was also really nice. I'm still on a high from the shows, it made my year!
I missed the BRMC show when they played here a week or so ago. I've heard that it was incredible, and now they're going to get all popular and there shows will sell out, and i'll never see them. I hate when bands become famous.
It's cool to see a band form around a bass player. The guy's amazing. Best bass player I've heard since Mike Watt from the Minutemen. I can't give these guys a better rap. New album's good; harkens back to Brit garage rock from the 1960's. Awesome. Everybody go support these cats.
Such a pleasure to see these guys perform and talk with Peter Hayes before and after the show...he was such a sweetheart and shy. Very polite it was endearing. No one even knew it was him walking around in the crowd before the show. I hope to have the pleasure of doing a show with them!
