Scottish author Irvine Welsh is so cool that he had the audacity to stand up David Bowie, twice. Think about that for a second. Welshy has an imagination like a hydrogen bomb; He is the brilliant mind behind such classics as Trainspotting, Porno, Glue, Filth, The Acid House, and my personal favorite, Maribou Stork Nightmares. But he is not the bad-boy that his reputation might suggest. He's smooth as a con-man -- witty, wise, sarcastic, and cunning. Plus, he once survived falling down a fire escape...
Oh fuck-shit-YES! i'm so happy about this interview. I'm a huge Welsh fan and i've read close to all of his books...i agree, Maribou Stork Nightmares is still my favorite and it happened to be the first one i read and drew me in as a rabid fan! Much love to you Mr. Welsh!! <3

Maribou is a classic and was my favorite for a long time. But in retrospect I think I would be more inclined to go with Trainspotting, as obvious as it may be. Welsh is one of my favorite authors, which is quite ironic given that, for the most part, I can't stand it when people write in Scottish. All of that "ahm no gonny go cuz ahm wi mah da an the cunt isnae gonny let us, etc..." does my head in.
Irinve Welsh is such a fantastic writer. I really need to get around to reading Maribou since everyone seems to like it so much. Maybe I'll start "If you liked School you'll love Work" in the mean time. Back when I read Filth I was so disgusted and enthralled at the same time; it's hard to reconcile those two emotions but Welsh accomplishes it perfectly.
I think i want to read Filth next, I'll go with trainspotting afterwards, he's awesome, Maribou Stork Nightmares would make an awesome movie, in the vein as Seven and Fight Club, really serious shit there. Good fun.
Irvine is BRILLIANT man. trainspotting is an excellent book and the movie is one of my favorites. i caught a glimpse at Porno in Borders and now it seems intruiging enough to pick up.
love the sick mind on welshy, but seriously was the interviewee in the same room when they had this conversation? he's dropped some absolute WTF moments without her even blinking?!
I'm lucky enough to have met Irvine several times. He is married to my sister-in-law. He was at my wedding and has been in my house. He's a great, hilarious, witty guy. Great interview.
