It seems a sickness. Its as if they're built only to be destroyed. This American society creates heroes according to almost a formula,quickly, then encourages them to deny that status through humiliating and shameful actions. What is it that drives a celebrity so fast out of the public's sympathies?
What happened to OJ, Michael Jackson, and Britney? How is it that fame, fortune, admiration, and influence aren't enough? Seems that some archetypes can be a lot to live up to, and the pressure to live up to the roles set must be immense. But it seems to inspire such morbid delight to see these trainwrecks and plane crashes, as if a star shines brightest when its going down in flames.
I guess the adoration of millions isn't sufficient to providing a stable footing for those of such lofty status. What is it though? Have we created these monsters?
