What is the BIG deal about The Big Lebowski

I don't get it.

First of all, I can't stand Jeff Bridges. Second of all, I hated that movie. Someone convince me...

Dude that movie was all about John Goodman.

it's funny as hell to a certain kind of people.
i'm one of those.
i use it as a divider when sorting friends into groups:
those who like it have good taste, those who don't like have bad taste.

It was all about the rug man, it really tied the room together.

plus, the performances by bridges and goodman were amazing!

There is an abundance of quotable dialogue. The characters are way over the top also. Goodman was great. Some of the lines are just genius:

"I was gonna fuck you in the ass Saturday! I fuck you in the ass on Wednesday instead!"

"You brought the fucking Pomeranian bowling?"
"I haven't brought it bowling...I didn't rent it shoes, I'm not buying it a fucking beer, it's not taking a fucking turn..."

"That's right, Dude. They peed on your fucking rug."

man i just love that movie. its the greatest!

Plus, it falls pretty solidly in line with the other Coen brother's neo-noir stuff. There's a mystery, and we have an incompetent detective and a bizarre femme fatale, and ineffective villians. Besides which, he never actually solves the case. It's like Chinatown but funnier.

Aww, Lesa, I'd've thought The Big Lebowski would be your kinda film I really liked it. It was so funny in places.

I also think it is totally impossible for anyone not to laugh at the part where the dude is nailing the board to the floor and then the door opens the other way. I had to rewind like the next 15 minutes of the movie because I was laughing so hard I missed it.

I LOVE The Big Lebowski (Its partially responsible for getting me interested in the Sons of the Pioneers) But I didnt like it very much the first time i saw it...It took a few viewings to actually start relaxing and just enjoying the film for what it was as opposed to what I expected it to be.
