All those books by Anne McCaffrey. Telepaths and Dragonriders - and the fact that I found those books right in the middle of puberty made it all really exciting.
haha, i was a huge anne mccaffrey junkie in my early teens. i even checked out books a second time from the library if i ran out of stuff to read.
Library? Shit, I still own almost the entire Pern series (not including the ones written by her son) and a good chunk of the Rowan/Telepaths books. Some things you just can't let go of, and books are really really hard to lose...
Even though I'm a fairly liberal, peace-loving, quasi-anarchistic young modern lass, I have an embarrassing hard-on for cheesy military fiction, especially this book.

Cheesy alternate history novels. Specifically Harry Turtledove.
I'm always intrigued by his concepts, but I can never get through his novels. But I always want to read him. So, tell me, what should I try to read first?

The Southern Victory (or Timeline 191) is probably my favorite series of his. It starts just after the South won the civil war, and goes from there with the USA and the CSA both being major powers who aren't friendly. The last book in the series is the end of WWII , so you get like 2 generations of characters through the whole series. I liked it. His writing isn't the best ever, but I like his characters and plot.
I can't say I'm really all that embarassed about the books I enjoyed reading but I feel like an ass when I've fresh run out of reading material and run down to the grocery store to buy what ever piece of crap is on the newsstand. I hate Dan Brown for little other reason than that I have put myself through reading four of his novels. I did however find "Wicked: The Life and Time of the Wicked Witch of the West" on one of those nights when I was fiending and enjoyed it.

The Anita Blake books by Laurell K. Hamilton. I know that they're repetitive smut, but they're entertaining, comparatively well-written repetitive smut.
Also, I'll give another vote to pretty much everything by Anne McCaffrey, for pretty much the same reasons. I was obsessed with them as a kid, they were some of the first novels that got me interested in the Fantasy genre, so they'll always have a place in my heart.
I haven't picked up a Xanth novel in a while, but for a long time it was those and Dragonlance novels.
nowadays it's probably more along the lines of air travel junkfood books like Clancey or Stephen King (don't get me started on his Dark Tower ending)
I'm also a total magazine whore. I have more motorcycle, politics, and men's magazines showing up than I can read before the next issues arrive.
I can't help it...it's like 25 cents for a subscription these days.
