ok so i just got a new tattoo and the guy was saying all these things not to do to it for awhile like slap it or whatever he was saying funny stuff as well as useful stuff and the last thing he said was don't lick the tattoo. well *embarrassed* i just noticed my dog has been licking my fresh tattoo, i was in the computer zone i don't know how long he was doing it, is something bad going to happen or was that guy just being funny?
Tongues carry germs. Dog tongues also carry germs (and contrary to popular myth, dog tongues are not "clean"). Does your dog lick his feet or his butt?
Your tattoo is a fresh wound and in danger of infection.

I just put neosporin on it maybe that will stop infections hopefully.
A lot of tattoo professionals will tell you not to use Neosporin on a new tattoo... both the ointment and the cream contain petroleum, and the cream contains mineral oil as well.

/head-desk
Be nice, not everyone can know everything about tattoo aftercare.
To be fair, it wasn't so much a "/head-desk" directed at inmypants, as it was one directed at the artist for not warning her of the inherent "Neosporin Damage" that her actions might incur.
inmypants - Darling, wash the tattoo, gently, with a small amount of Dial soap, and cover it in a light coat of unscented, non-petroleum moisturizer. It will do you so much better than Neosporin.
