Rennetless Cheeses: Can someone tell me what this means? I tried looking it up on the internet but some sites says it vegetarian safe and then some people say it's not.

What is it? and is it vegetarian?

It's cheese, only rennetless. You know- without rennet(s).

Hope this helps.

I think it means they don't use gut juice from a calf to coagulate the cheese; they use some kind of vegetable product or microbial agent to do that.

I'm a big cheese guy.

Everybody says so.

Edited to say: I first thought this thread was called "Relentless Cheese," which sounds like the name of a band.

Rennets come from the linings of a cows stomach. That is how the first cheeses were made. They were storing milk using an animals stomach for a container and the rennet turned it into cheese.

Dude, I...well, when you think about it, I guess it's not that bad. You know, when I think about burgers and all.

I just keep seeing "Relentless Cheeses" and thinking of some horror movie "THE CHEESE THAT WOULDN'T DIE" [cue dramatic music]

It's cheese for Absolut vegans, especially Hindus. There's plenty of people out there who wouln't touch cheese if they knew that intestinal calf derivatives had been used to process.

I thought the same thing Keith did. Lock your doors, the Relentless Cheese is coming!

Or maybe it could be cheese that just beats me or something. Ooh... That's kinda hot... Spank me harder, Relentless Cheese, harder!
