So I've been working at this bankruptcy firm for a lil over two years now. I make a pretty decent wage ($2200CND gross a month... which it like $14/hr) I have my own office and a pretty lax work environment. Thing is I'm getting this stagnant feeling and like I'll never get out of this job... not to mention on occasion I wanna deck my co-workers and my workload is mental at times. My main task here is tax returns (which I do approx. 1000 a year) and it only slows down around July-Aug til Nov-Dec. The rest of the time it's crazy busy and during the tax season I'm expected to work free overtime (sometimes 60+ hours total a week) since it's a salary job and I get 2 weeks paid vacation. They can't afford to fire me cuz I'm their computer person as well... they'd be royally fucked if they did.

So that's the background of my present joblife.

My friend just got me an interview being a travel consultant at his work where I'd pretty much answer the phone, book travel arrangements and try to upsell them on better deals. It pays $12/hr base plus bonuses based on your sales and your groups sales (there's also a free season's pass to Whistler included). I can work as much paid (time & a half) overtime as I'd like in Nov. since they're super busy then. Thing is it's only a four month contract which may or may not lead to a permanent posistion.

To top it all off my s.o. just got a tech job with Much Music and they're sorta looking for new techs (sound/lighting and such). Their starting wage is $9.50 but they high school dances mainly and therefore the hours are generally evenings... unless it's an out of town gig then they start around 10-11am. My s.o. thinks I should try to cut back my hours here and work with him and do more tech work (which I love and want to learn more about). Thing is even if I ended up full time there I know I can't support myself on that kind of wage.

Finally there's some body mods I've been planning for the last six or so months (I know I prolly shouldn't let this sway my decision but it does). I'd be able to get the tattoo work done regardless but not the facial piercings I want if I stay at my current job (since it is an office setting). At the travel job my buddy says I can do whatever the hell I want with my hair/body so long as I dress business casual. Thing is if it's only a four month contract then if/when they can my ass it'll be hard to get another job with "shit in my face".

I'm totally torn as to what to do. Here I have job security, occasionally psycho co-workers and a "hectic-want-to-kill-myself" workload (especially during tax season). At the possible new job I have an easy workload, stress from sales and no job certainty beyond four months.

I'm not asking for someone to decide for me (that'd be retarded) but I'd like a lil outside advice if anyone has any.

If you got through all that thanx... I didn't mean for it to be so long winded,

Do you actually expect people to read all that?

i read all of it. Thats a tough decision. Add the shit in your face and I'd go for the new job. But remember that you can always take out the face stuff if your new job doesnt pan out. As long as your not planing some facial tattoo's. It sounds like your getting taken advantage of in your current postition. I'd go to boss and tell them your concerns and maybe they will work out a better position for you. It cant hurt trying since you have a new job lined up.

that's a tough descion... but you'll have to weigh out if job security is more important than your happiness...

if your current job is making you unhappy, by all means, the security isn't worth it...

i'm in the same boat, but i stuck with my shitty job... and i'm kicking myself for it.

good luck.

I say quit your current job and start shooting smack. Collect cans and panhandle in the street to support your sweet new habit. And if you don't make enough money that way, you can always give hand jobs in the parking lot for ten dollars.

At least that what I heard.

Go with the job that makes you happy. Being overworked and having no fun, makes even the best job a liability.

I read it all too---- that is a toughyyyyy!-
You could make it work.( the not having as much money part- you could make it work)

- Taking piercings outta your face- after they have healed leaves nasty little scares.
I know from exp.
If you get the piercings- get em- for good.-Not for four months. If possible. blackeyed

I dont even know what to do. surreal
Tell us when you decide.

I read it all, you know what, take the four month gig, but save up in case it doesnt pan out in the end. Worse case scenerio is that you have to find another job.

That's a tricky one... Only getting two weeks paid vacation a year is pretty bad, and if you're getting really stressed with co-workers and workload, then it's probably time to be looking for another job... Why not take the temporary job with your friend, and use that time to look for something more permanant incase you don't get given a permanant position at the end of the temp period?
If you're not happy where you are, then always best to get out smile

I've got an interview on Monday for this new job. I found out it's a for sure four month contract. There is a silver lining though... they do part time. The part-time shift would be 3 days a week and one weekend. Two weeks of training from 5-10pm in Nov. which means I'd literally leave one job to race to another.

So now I'm toying with the idea of cutting my hours a tiny bit at my current job... taking this new job (if it's offered) and going to bartending school on Saturdays (which has already been payed for). I'm pretty sure my current work will let me if I talk to them about it and say I'm saving for school.

This now leaves me with a full time job, a part time job and part time school (not to mention general life). It's sounds like I'm totally crazy and maybe I am. I'm still thinking about it of course and I mean I can always quit the travel consultant job if it makes me too batty. The four month contract would be happening during the absolute height of tax season when I haveta pull overtime at my current job so it might be a little much.

Why am I doing all this... Europe baby... Europe. I plan on going next June but I can't support myself and save enough money to go and support myself over there if need be. That's also the reasoning behind the bartending school.

As for the body mods I really don't want to get them until I know I can keep them because I know I'll love them. So I'm just going to have to wait I guess =/

Course if all else fails I can always start shooting smack like DissapearHere suggested... I mean shit that sounds like some real fun!

Ya... finding a high paying job that I love would be key... kinda hard though.

I _might_ *crosses fingers* be getting a full time job with MTV Canada being a secretary/tech *beams* Fuck I'd love that... even at a $3/hr paycut I'd love it!! It's perfect for me!

Oh and as for the body mods... I was gonna get a couple lip rings... or a monroe.
