Ugh, what an asshole. I love how he puts the Greeks on such an uneven pedestal of reason, too -- we may tuck away their religious beliefs as "mythology" now, but I'll be damned if the vast majority of Greeks weren't falling all over themselves at the thought of being turned into a tree to escape being raped by Zeus in the form of an ox. A few great thinkers does not necessarily equal a great society.

Not that facts should get in the way of a good rant or anything. whatever

It's Hitchens. It's not surprising. I don't agree with a lot of what he says... maybe not even MOST of what he says, but he is amusing to listen to. His opinions can make him equally hated by liberals or conservatives, and I must admit that endears him to me just a little.

"preferring fundamentalist thuggery to secularism"... Isn't this what monotheism is all about? Didn't realize the Jews had a monopoly on it, seems the Christians and the Muslims are pretty damn good at it too...

Hitchens is against those religions too.

Also, Rahodeb, "medium" and "tone" are hardly synonyms. The medium in this case is an internet daily news magazine. The tone is confrontational.
