That's a shame. I was really looking forward to the data on armed students confronting a sniper.

Let's postulate, for the sake of argument, that students and others with carry permits will behave responsibly. That still doesn't lead to the conclusion that their presence in a shoot-out with a nutjob would be a good thing.

Behaving responsibly is not the same thing as being properly trained. They wouldn't have gone through the procedures police officers must go through in 1) checking lines of fire, 2) accounting for bystanders, or 3) cooperating with each other in a combat situation.

What I find most disturbing is that you seem to be willing to trust untrained college students, but you seem to have a severe distrust of police officers.

I'm ok with it. Most states you have to be 21 to get the license anyways.

So, you're telling me that CCW holders are less likely than the rest of the population to become mentally ill;
to become temporarily irrational due to drugs (including alcohol);
to lose their temper in a situation where they are within reach of a firearm;
to commit traffic offences (which, I'll just point out, are with a lethal instrument, viz. a car)?

I don't think any of those positions is remotely credible.

The problem though is that your assumption is that guns give ordinary people the power to commit crimes on a whim. Unfortunately, the data doesn't back up that line of thought.

What you are getting at with that is more in the line of gun control, period, as someone who will break the law isn't going to worry about the lack of a CCW license, and will use whatever gun is nearby to commit the crime. It's a separate issue, and debating gun control as opposed to who should be allowed to carry.

Ah, no. My assumption is that guns give ordinary people the power to shoot guns on a whim. Does the data back that up?

"Oh, I think I'm just going to shoot this hamburger at a tree. Oh, wait..."

And what has that to do with my point?

Gun control isn't about who's allowed to carry? Really?

Quite.
