im nervous! so this saturday i'm starting my sleeve.. i waited 3 months for this appointment. i started with my elbow almost 2 years ago. now i'm tattoeing my wrist, and working my way up, all custom.. im totally excited yet scared shitless!! i have ink, but most of it is easily covered. i've been wanting to do my arm for YEARS, and i still want it, BUT how will it affect my future?? i can get away with tats at my current job, but i dont plan on being there forever. i wana go back to school soon, fashion merchandising or something in that industry. i know a lot of you on sg.com have ink, has it affected ur life in a negative way? has it stopped you from doing something you really wanted? i mean i think im going to get it regardless, but im wondering whats in store for me if i do?!!!! ~Soraya

I have to cover my tattoos at work every day, which can be frustrating. The one on the back of my neck is especially annoying because I really want a haircut but can't get one, or the tattoo would show.

The other negative effect for me is people thinking they can grab me or touch me in public, just to see my tattoos. I don't even have that many and people treat me like public property, I can't imagine how it woudl be if I had all the tattoos I actually WANT to have.

Oh, and once a guy said he might dump me if I got my first tattoo.

really,

your starting you sleve and you've not thought this through about how it will affect you in the future, thats a bit silly isn't it, maybe you should think about it a bit more.

that sad you want to do fashion, but your worried that you won't be able to take it if you have a sleve, when fashion is all about your own style? so why would it affect you

um yeah its affected my life... i'm now a walking display of art for rude ass people on the street to gawk at and grab my arm without even asking me or even saying "hello"
people often think i'm some tattooed uneducated bitch until they talk to me. as far as jobs i'm an executive assistant to a mulit million dollar company here in san diego, they were iffy at first about my tattoos but now they see me as a "normal" human being with tattoos and bright red hair. i'm getting my right sleeve done dec. 7th , so we'll see if their minds have changed once i have a tattoo of a zombie fucking me(as a monster). good luck with your tattoo and please post some photos! biggrin

i had a guy grab me at work and start trying to take my shirt off to show his GRAND DAUGHTER my tattoos...and when i yelled he looked at me like he was doing nothing wrong!

and then the other day some old guy was like "you know, more and more people are having them removed" of course, i am an asshole sometimes (and i shouldnt have said anything since i work at a restraunt) but i came back with "well, more and more people are just fucking retarded and dont plan out their tattoos" he got a little pissed.

point of the story is, dealing with tattoos can be a HUGE hassle. they are more accepted then ever, but still not as well as one would hope. if you think that it might affect your future, then DONT get it. i have wanted hand tattoos for years now, but i wont go past my upper wrist. but, that is a personal decision. you can make your own...you are a grown woman.

good luck! kiss

Personally, I'd want to know what the inks were made of before starting. You're stuck with them forever, once the tat is done, IIUC.
But that's just me.
