Have you ever eaten at Al di la in Park Slope? Stupid ass long wait to get a table but the malfatti in brown butter was stupendous as was the rabbit (the most succulent and flavorful rabbit I've ever had).
And speaking of Italian - I had some awesome osso bucco at the Venetian in Vegas. Food is fucking awesome. I love your column.
You know it's true about chains to a point.
They're good when they have a few "pods" .
You know when people are still thinking "hey this is a good idea" not "hey this is a good way to make money"
As a white girl with a California accent I find it almost impossible to get good recommendations from cab drivers.
I ask cab drivers in San Francisco and get directed to crummy Chinese on the most touristy outskirts of China Town. I ask cab drivers in Memphis and get directed to Bourbon street. I know that's not where they eat themselves. I don't care if it's a bad neighborhood, I just want it to be authentic.
Ugh, I know exactly what you mean.
Next time you're in SF message me and we can hunt down delicious Chinese food together.
