A few days ago I got my first tattoo. It's of a tribal design on my upper back, and by its positioning and design, one can say it is emblematic of wings. I have a tattoo fetish, and so I faced an inked inevitability.

About halfway through the process, during all that pain, my mind started wandering about what I was going to get next; and not only that, but afterwards I felt no desire to waiting. It had taken me a whole year of contemplation to go ahead with a first tattoo, but now I want so much more and have little tolerance to waiting. I came in for one, but now I want a second, third, fourth...

So, Question:

Before you got your first tattoo, what were your intentions? Do you now have more tattoos than you had originally intended?

Thanks!

[Tattoos are damn addicting.]

my first tattoo is nothing like the rest, and wouldn't be easily reworked. i love it, and i'm glad i have it, but it's who i was at 21, not who i am now.

Congrats on your new ink! I got my first tattoo about seven years ago (where does the time go) and it's a rocket ship on my shoulder. Since then I've managed to get significant tattoo acreage. I'm a little bit at a loss right now as what to get next. I should finish my sleeve, I had plans for some Chinese lions and peonies, but I dunno. I guess I'm just getting old and boring.

while i was getting my first, the tattoo artist told me that once you're cut, you'll keep coming back for more. 3 and counting for me.

I first decided I wanted an Ohm tattoo, then I waited over a year to get it, after about months I was like, "yah cool, that's what I am getting" but then I had to decide on where, and what design. In reality, I think it mostly had to do with money. Then one day I went in with my friend Michael to get his tat, and I was going to get my other nipple pierced, but the piercer had left, so I made an appointment for my tat. Now I have 2, and no end in sight. I have 2 more ideas that I know I am going to get. Again, the problem comes down to money.

My intention was to get something to distract from a scar on my side and back (not my backsidebiggrin) My first tattoo was reallly just a test to see if I'd be able to stand the pain of a larger piece. I guess I was biggrin I had to wait a while in between tattoos and completing the entire thing due to working and money. I'd like more done, but can't seem to settle on a design I'm happy with frown
Our local museum opened an exhibition on tattooing today, and a while ago myself and a few others had pics of ours taken for itbiggrin

I got my first tattoo in a coke heads garage when I was 14, insted of money I gave him faces of death collection, porn, a bowling glove and a bong that said 'lets fuck'. I swear on my LIFE this is true.

before I got my first tattoo all I could think about is I want a tattoo. That's why I got crappy faded home made garbage. I got my best tattoo when I put lots of thought into it. and I don't have nearly as many as I want. Looking forward to sexy pinups and sailor girls eventually all over me. love

all my tattoos are designed by ]my best friend
I orginially paid him almost 7 years ago to do the first one, described what I wanted and everything. it took him five years to get around to designing it and he did it in about 30 min and had pretty much exactly what I wanted. that's just the way he is. luckily he was a bit quicker with the other two.... the third one, I emailed him in NC from Seattle and he got it to me within a couple days. smile oh wait...the topic...right. smile
when I got the first one, I was fairly certain that I would get more...the second and third both came quickly after the first (within 6 months.) since then, money and a general cool down has me slowed, but I'm sure I'll be getting more....they ARE addictive...the process and the result, if done right....just... yeh

I always wanted my backpiece and one random day I just decided to actually go through with it.I gave my tattoo guy the photo of what I wanted,he drew it freehand on my back with a ballpoint pen and the rest is history.
That was more than a year ago and I love it now, more than ever.

I haven't got any yet, but I have two planned. Simple stuff, just text, but can anyone recommend a good place to get ink in Greater Boston?
